Any ladies have problem with their periods after surgery??

Recommended Posts

OK, sorry if this is too much information BUT...

I am almost exactly a month out of surgery... I had my period right before surgery (in fact it finished the day before my surgery) and I was due to have it again last week on Tuesday... it's now more than a week late, and I'M NEVER late! Nope, I'm not pregnant because I was following Dr's orders no sex for 4-5 weeks after surgery... so there's been none of that business going on!!:001_tongue: (my poor hubby!!)

Just wondering if it's my body holding on to everything seeing as I've lost 30 lbs in a month... maybe my body thinks I'm starving and is trying to maintain/hold on to whatever it can??

Any other ladies experience this at all?:blushing:

My cycle was off the first 2 months post-op. It finally regulated to where I can actually chart my ovulation for the last 3 months. Good news is now my cycle is super light, and a day shorter.

It's the hormones throwing everything out of whack.

What perfect timing! I was just thinking about posting the same question but I'm only a few days late. I assumed my body was just trying to figure out what the heck I'd done to it. Enjoy it while we can, right?!

Guess what else? I'm two weeks and two days post op and it seems I've hit my first stall! That was NOT going to happen to me!!!! :001_tongue: Oh well, just gonna ride it out and not weigh everyday anymore, maybe twice a week until it starts moving again anyway, as it ruins my day. I know I'm getting smaller, I just wish the scale agreed, for once. Hit a brick wall at exactly two weeks out. Perfect.

Sorry for rambling!

So Tiffy, did you get it at all during the first 2 months? I sure am looking forward to lighter and a day less!! That's ANOTHER perk to this surgery!!

Haha, you're welcome! You're right I AM going to enjoy it while I can!

I hit my first stall at the end of 2 weeks when I started mushies.. it lasted a week and a half and then it started moving again. THEN when I was expecting my period last week it stalled AGAIN for a week, it just started moving again yesterday... I STILL weigh myself every day though. It was TOTALLY frustrating not seeing any progress, but I just kept saying it WILL start up again, it WILL start up again! I figured it took me YEARS to put all this weight on, I should be more patient in trying to get it off!

The change in my periods was that I actually got one! I was so irregular prior to surgery that I would go months without, then suddenly when I started the pre-op diet I got one & exactly one cycle later I got it again. Crazy what shedding some pounds can do for us!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
