I had that same concern about losing weight too fast. It will slow down but you undoubtedly will continue to decrease in weight as the weeks progress. As for the nausea, I was given nausea meds and I recommend zophran. I was given reglan in the hospital via IV and then in pill form to take at home. I don't recommend reglan since you can have some very nasty and severe side effects and the FDA has issued a recent warning about that drug. I think nausea usually considered an expected sensation after this type of surgery but if it doesn't subside or is extreme or causes you to vomit etc. then I'd contact my surgeon. Hope you feel better soon.

Hi Lou,

I don't know about the weight loss, but I know that lots of people will chime in with advice. I just wanted to welcome you to VST. I look forward to reading about your journey.

Congratulations Lou and welcome to VST! Your weight loss will slow down, but you might find that you lose fairly quickly...we are all so different in terms of weight loss timing. I wouldn't be too concerned (unless your surgeon is) as long as you're getting in liquids and Protein. I have no experience with nausea, sorry I can't help there, but I would definitely call your doctor's office tomorrow to discuss possible solutions. Good luck with your post-op journey!

I am 30 lbs down-2.5 weeks out and my surgeon seems pretty happy about it, so I am going to go with that. My skin does feel flabby already, but I think that probably would have happened either way.

Hi Lou! Welcome to VST. With any restrictive dieting, vsg or otherwise, people with more to lose will lose more quickly. The heavier you are the more calories your bod needs to maintain so you burn more at a resting rate than someone of a lesser weight. What's your starting weight? Again, welcome to the board!!

I had surgery the same day and have lost the same amount of weight. I'd be happier if it were 42 lbs instead LOL. No clue about the nausea other than maybe chew ginger gum.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
