I'm going to try the peaches w/ vanilla powder this afternoon! I'm starting to run out of Protein samples but won't buy more until post-op when I see what I still like. I'm afraid to order, then hate it later.

bella, watch out buying too many flavors because what you like pre-op you might not like post op. there are things that i loved before surgery and can't stand now. like regular tea made in a tea/coffee maker with splenda sweetner, now i have to drink diet snapple peach tea. i have never liked tea out of a bottle. go figure!!

Thanks Laura. I'm running out and didn't plan to buy anything new until post-op. I'm just having fun trying different things now and experimenting with Isopure Jello etc. My program wants me to get all Protein from food post-op anyhow.

lee, my surgeon also wants me to get all of my Protein from foods but some days it is hard to eat things that are high enough in protein. most days i get anywhere from 55-65 g. of protein. i should've done a Protein Shake tonight but i am so tired from my spin class tonight i don't have the energy to to get up and make it. ha ha. that damn bike kicked my a__. well good luck.

Lee,

Your program may want you to get all your protien from food, but the reality of WLS life is that you'll almost surely need one Protein supplement to get in 70-80 grams a day. We cannot eat the portions of food that will allow us to get it all from food unless you eat just protien. That would not be a healthy diet. So in order to include the other food groups such as vegetables, fruit and whole grains you will very likely have to supplement. Try to find a nutritionist or surgeon that has personal experience with living day to day with WLS. They will say the same thing.

Tracy, great advice. I have my stash of Protein powders. I'm planning to add it to everything I eat and drink. For the full liquid stage, I have BodyTech Protein pudding. High protein in only 5 oz and I add it to unflavored organic soymilk with only 3 carbs for 8 oz.

Kaiser uses what they think is a great food plan, but I do see the weakness in lack of sufficient protein. I need to be on my feet and back to work quickly and know that more protein will help me there.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
