What does "slimes" mean?

Recommended Posts

sure, it's when you don't chew well enough or eat too much to fast, suddenly you have to start clearing your throat because all this phylem comes up, just like when your nose gets the runs into your throat and you have to spit it out or if you've ever had a sinus problem and have to spit. . . it's really nasty and just keeps coming until your stomach settles (about 20 - 30 minutes) I had an episode like this last week with eggs and will NEVER do that again. . . i ate my 1 egg too fast in about 3-4 minutes verus the 20 recommended minutes and man did i regret that . . . not only do you get the slimes but the pain that accompanies it is very uncomfortable, feels like something keeps crawling up your throat and then goes back down. . .very nasty. . . hope this helps

I would not call it phylem. It's more like thick spit. Your mouth just keeps filling up and you have to spit it out. It can go on for quite awhile.

I currently have had this for weeks now. I haven't eaten anything since my nausea had started, so does it just go away on its own and if so when? if it doesn't, what do I have to do to make it go away?

O wow! I didn't know what in the heck this was. It's so gross...And yes it lasts a long time :tongue_smilie:. I don't have any pain though, just the gross thick spit that I have to keep spitting out.

So THAT's what that was!!! How quickly after eating too quickly does this happen? I've only had it happen once and it was horrible. I want to say it was a while after I had last ate. I thought the thing that set me off was a chewable bariatric Vitamin because the sliming started right after that. In any event, I'm glad I had some anti-nausea medication and took that... seemed to help. Hope it never happens again...

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
