Ok, let me try this again. I hit the wrong button before and sent a very incomplete message. I am awaiting my surgery date, but I still have 5 lbs. to loose. (Actually, I've put on 3 lbs.):sad0: Doesn't sound like much, or so I thought. I have been unable to take off ANY weight now for a week. I have a Protein Shake for Breakfast and again for dinner. My shake is made with frozen mango chunks (from Trader Joe's), 1 spoonful of low fat yogurt, whey Protein and non-fat milk. I usually have an orange mid-morning and I eat a Lean Cuisine for lunch. I exercise daily. 0 lbs off for a whole week. On the day of surgery, if I show up and weigh any more than 200 lbs., my HMO will postpone my surgery. No leeway whatsoever. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? I'm at my wits end. Thank you.:sad0:

Fastest, easiest way to lose weight it doing the induction phase of Atkins....basically meat, cheese, and eggs. mayo is fine, you can have Pork rinds to snack on (nuked with some cheese melted on them is yummy.... but no breads, cereals, pastas, sugars, milk, none of that. You can also have (if I remember right) a cup of non-starchy vegetables or two cups of lettuce a day with it. Ranch dressing is also great if you need some kind of sauce for you meat. Don't even worry about the calories, just focus on Protein and fat.... it'll come off!!

Do you have to do a specific pre-op diet before your surgery?

No, Kaiser doesn't give us a particular pre-op diet. You just have to take 10% of your total weight (the weight you are at your 1st visit with them) by surgery date. I'm not much of a meat eater but I'm certainly going to give your suggestion a try. Thanks.

I know this doesn't help but I would be dancing in the streets if I weighed close to 200lbs! lol

Hi Diane,

I'm a Kaiser Richmond patient so I know your pain. I'm 1 pound up from my surgery goal so I know I have to get it down before the 17th or they'll send me home.

Low carb is really the best way to go. I'd dump the mango because it's so high in sugar. It will keep you craving. Get rid of the oranges as well. What I've been eating to keep me close to goal is lean ground turkey fried up with a spoon of sour cream and salsa on it. Eating meat will keep you full longer so that you won't need to snack. chicken, pork chops, whatever you like. eggs are also great. Make an omlete with a little turkey or ground beef in it and it should hold you for 4-5 hours.

Pre-packaged meals are very high in sodium. You may just be retaining fluids. Drink 96 oz of Water and herbal tea if you like it. Eat only fresh meat. Stay away from cheese if you can. Trader Joe's has Fage non fat yogurt. Eat that with some splenda. It's 20 Protein for a cup and low carbs. If you need fresh, eat lettuce or spinach. There are some Protein shakes that are good with Water and have only 1-2 carbs per serving. That said, small Protein meals will keep you full longer. I think we get the same binder of information at Richmond that you have at Fremont.

You're doing great. You'll have surgery before you know it!

Thanks, Bella, for the great suggestions. Definitely will give them a try. And by the way, best of luck to you on Monday. I will say a prayer for you and hope you have an easy go of it, very little pain, and the best of recoveries. I'm so happy for you.

Patience- I didn't exercise at all during pre-op, but I'm not advocating that...Plus, I am mucher heavier then you, so the pre-op was helping me just get rid of all the extra Water I had been carrying around....High Protein, low fat, low carbs.....tons of water and you will be there for sure

Diane, my surgery was postponed until Wednesday, February 17th. Since I got a terrible sore throat yesterday, it's a good thing it was changed a week ago.

Hey, any exercise you get, walking 30 minutes, whatever, will help you get to your goal. I notice that the weeks I walk several times, I do better in terms of weight loss.

Send me a PM anytime for a peptalk. We will do this!

fruit has lots of carbs and lean cuisines have lots of sodium. . . maybe try skipping the fruits and lean cuisines. . .I didn't have to do a pre op diet, but my post op diet wasn't any better then the preop. . . you could try this if you want

breakfast: 4 oz dannon light N fit yogurt (60 calories)

lunch : chicken broth (no sodium, no MSG) or beef broth

Dinner: 1/4 c tuna or salmon with No Fat mayo, 1/2 c extra lean hamburger meat, or extra lean ground turkey or 1 egg with 1 slice of no fat cheese . .

In between the meals you can have popsicles sugar free of course, lots of Water with crystal light flavor, sugar free Jello. . . or you can incorporate these with meals. . . but drink alot of Water. . . and keep on exercising. . . good luck

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
