im about half way done with my classes at Kaiser which means im half way to getting my surgery im liittle scarred not gonna lie. but i was wondering how painful was it after the surgery? how long did you wait before going back to work? and also do you get alot of the dumping syndrome? i heard you get it with the gastric bypass more. i can ask these types of questions to my doc or some other medical person haha but i think i can find more accurate answers from people who have experienced it already. thanks i hope to hear from everyone!:thumbup1:

Hello,

I had my surgery on Dec.2 and I got out of the hospital on Dec.5. The only pain I had was from the gas pains for one week. They say that is from the surgery and anethesia, it is normal. I did not have any pain at the incision site. I was my Doctor's 2nd patient that he performed the new way of doing the Sleeve. He only made one incision which was 2 inches right above my belly button. I do believe that it helped for me to heal more quickly and to not have any pain. The usual way is with 5 incisions. I had a two week appointment after surgery and my incision was healed ok and the Doctor gave me the OK to go to my Swim Exercise classes. Also I had a 10 pound weight limit if I had to lift anything for 8 weeks.

If I eat and drink liquid right after the meal, I have a tendency to have to go to the rest room real soon and have what seems to be similar to what I have read about dumping syndrone.

I know that I am suppose to wait at least 30-60 minutes after eating to drink, but I have a hard time following this advice. When I do wait I do have better results.

I wish you all the best. I really am glad that I found this forum and the ObesityHelp.com in the beginning, because I found out alot of answers to the questions I had about having surgery and what to expect. I am sure that you will get more answers as time goes by.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
