VSG Dietary Guidelines

Recommended Posts

Maybe we could get this "Sticky'd" on the forum. I ran across this link and think has some really great information.

It's a long, detailed PDF file chalked full of information for VSG Patients. This covers post-op diet to vitamins/supplements, quick guide to Protein count in certain foods.

I'm printing this out also, thanks Tiffy!!! By the way how are your doing?

Linda

Doing pretty good today. I ate some crackers, about 4oz of a baked potato with cheese and ranch dressing, and just had 1/4 of an apple.

Thankfully, the pain while eating and drinking is completely resolved. I just have some residual pain under my right rib. Dr. R said he had to take down some scar tissue around my liver just to get to my gallbladder so I expect to be sore for a few more days. He also did some exploring around in my abdominal cavity to ensure everything looked good. Overall, I'm feeling pretty good. I think I'll be able to sleep in bed tonight instead of the recliner.

You know, it sounds like it was a good thing for this to happen. He was able to remove scar tissue that could have hurt you down line for sure, so with a clean bill you are on your way. So happy for you!

Hey Tiff,

Thanks for that and so glad you're feeling better. A question for the board; what's this about raw veggies? I mean, I get it, I understand why we should stay away from raw cellulose overall but... really? I wasn't a veggie maniac "before" but I hate to think I'll not be able to have salad and/or most raw vegetables from here on out. Any thoughts?? Thanks guys.

I've been eating spinach salad. Chew well. Not having any problem. But it's so soft...not like carrots or broccoli.

There was one poster quite a while back who ate coconut, and ended up with it stuck in her stomach in a ball. She had to have it surgically removed. So I would say, I'd try only small amounts at a time, of any tough veggie, and chew chew chew.

I was allowed to eat raw veggies and salads around the 3 month post-op mark. I remember the post Cajun is referencing. It was a bezoar that develop in this one particular patient's tummy. I enjoy salads pretty regularly, but I make sure that I chew plenty before swallowing.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
