My date is in two weeks from today....I am so worried, anxious, scared and excited!

With that being said I really need some guidance:

When can/do I start all these vitamins/minerals?

Which ones do I take?

What can I do to prevent being so fatigue after surgery (Mom of 2, work and school)

AND any other advice to help me through these next two weeks, PLEASE! :thumbup1:

YAY YAY Sarah, I'm so ecstatic for you.

I would forward the vitamin/mineral questions to your coordinator just to be on the safe side. I was already on my Vitamins pre-op, but had to stop taking them 5 days pre-op per my surgeon's instructions.

I know some people get ready-to-drink Protein drinks (muscle milk light, Atkins shakes) to help with energy. Just make sure they're listed on the post-op clear and full liquid diet per your surgeon.

I know some patients start taking Biotin pre-op to get ahead of the curve on hair regrowth.

I am a mom of two (under 5) and while I haven't had a ton of pain, it has been a little tough. I have depended on others to help me out with taking my daughter to school and bringing her home. I had a nanny here all week. But this is ONLY because I have a 1 year old that is over 30 lbs. My surgeon just didn't feel I should be picking him up. If I just had my daughter, I would probably had people help with driving, but that is it. I was cleared to drive on Wednesday, so 10 days out I was fine.

I REALLY feel okay to be on my own, but I am keeping the babysitter booked tomorrow. I am thinking of going to the mall and just walking around.

Hi Sarah!

Here are some suggestions that I think will make you feel better:

Make your list of thinks to take:

- Warm, comfortable clothes -- I went to Wal-Mart and bought men's BUM equipment, 100% cotton sweatshirts that were $10-$15 each.

- Slippers

- Gas-X

- An antacid -- I use Prevacid and I've not yet had any problems

- ear plugs - the recovery houses are noisy as is the clinic

- rest! as well as walk (I did stairs) during recovery. This time is for you so take advantage of it and -- rest.

- throw away facecloths -- use a clean face/wash cloth everyday -- if you can, just leave them in the trash. Wal-Mart has a package of 5 for $2.00

- inexpensive cotton underwear -- 2 pair for surgery day as the surgery pair will be quite soiled with iodine, etc. from the surgery (if you can, make these disposable as well)

(My point is: pack what you need but bring back as little as possible so that the return trip is as 'easy' as possible)

I did not take Vitamins the week of surgery. But, I started again, the week after.

Do contact Melissa with any questions -- she will help.

Do positive, do well!
