Ok so I just got sleeved on the 1st of Feb. When I go to the post op appointment do they remove the staples? Does it hurt?

I had mine out yesterday afternoon and it was no big deal. It barely felt more than a little pinch. Don't let it worry you at all.

I agree - staple removal is no big deal. It will be over before you know it. Just take some liquid Tylenol an hour before if you want.

TexasT,

I am also here in the Dallas area and have my appointment with Dr Nick on the 11th. I was just wondering how long were you in the hospital?

I hope to have mine by the end of this month.

Thanks

I had surgery on Friday and went home on Sunday. I had band removal, sleeve, gall bladder removal, adhesion removal, and an undiagnosed hiatal hernia repaired. So it was a pretty wild surgery. After my leak test on Saturday, they decided to keep me in an extra day because my esophagus was so inflamed and my bloodwork indicated I might have internal bleeding. They took labs again Sunday morning early, everything was fine and I went home that afternoon.

Motherof4, I had my staples removed by Dr. Jay & they took every other one out the 1st week & then the rest of the staples out the following week. You can't feel them. Don't get worked up about it. You'll be fine!!

This may be a dumb question, but what staples are you talking about?

It might pinch here and there, but other then that it's not bad. . when they clean it after with alcohol that tends to sting but it's not bad. . . I had mine taken out before i left the hospital.

I don't think they mean the staple lines in the stomach.....

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
