Some doctors use staples for the skin incisions, others use dissolvable sutures and still others use surgical glue. If I remember correctly, Dr Nick uses glue.

I had staples with one of my c-sections, tiny pinch when they clip the staple and a slight tug when they pull it out. Not horrible.

i1Linda,

What about the drain? He said I would have surgery on Monday 2/22 and have the drain out the next Tuesday or Wednesday. How bad is this drain?

The drain is a little uncomfortable and a nuisance but not horrible. Having the drain lets your doctor know what's going on inside by seeing what's coming out. When they took it out, I was surprised at how long it was. I was always worried about accidently pulling it out. Yeah, that wasn't going to happen.

I had surgery on Monday and the drain came out when I was released on Wednesday... or was it Thursday? One of the surgeons took mine out before he put the discharge order in. I had 2 drains during my last surgery too (when my band eroded and put a huge hole in my stomach). I hate, hate, hated getting those things out. It is just an icky feeling. It hurts a little bit while you're getting them pulled out, but as soon as they are out no pain at all.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
