Depressed and hungry

Recommended Posts

OK. Had sleeve done 1-4-10. Lost 19 pounds so far. But lately, feeling really low energy and depressed. I tried to eat a little bit of cornbread the other day and had the weirdest reaction. I had this fever feeling all over and these terrible cramps. Guess cornbread is a bad call. I just miss eating I guess. I miss Coke. My family doesn't get it cause I've lost some weight and I am glad of that. I just wish I felt better. Wish everytime I ate Soup I didn't get gas or feel bad. What a downer post huh? Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Stacey in SoCal

Everyone has down days. I can imagine the cornbread not settling at this point. Good thing is that you can try it in the future. I can eat a small portion of corn bread nowadays.

Are you able to get in your Protein? If not, that can help increase your energy.

I used Gas X strips after eating to help cut down on gas.

It does get better. Don't give in to the temptation of soda especially this early out. Your staple line is still healing. Hang in, and know we're all here for you.

Cornbread (anything with corn or bread in the title!!!) are high glycemic index foods and may have given you an elevated blood sugar, then a rush of insulin, especially if you are insulin resistant. That could have been what you felt. Avoid starches as well as sugars, especially this early in your recovery. Protein is best.

I hear ya, cokes are my downfall... I'm a true coca-cola addict! I can do a six pack a day easy!!! Weening myself off is hell and I know my head will mess with me on this one.. To be honest coke is the worst thing I worry about because the consequences are huge if I have one! Hang in there... My surgery is mid feb I'll be joining u soon!

I can't eat moist breads. I can eat a half a piece of toast and that is it. I don't very often though. I don't want to waste the space when I could be eating Protein. No more moist breads. Protein.< /p>

Cutting soda is tough. I can tell you going from 204 to 152 I would give a million six packs of soda. Sometimes I look at my legs and arms and go "Are those mine?" I felt strange shopping in the regular section. I thought for sure someone would run me out or look at me funny. It is worth it. Trust me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
