I've been reading a lot about people stalling a few weeks after their surgery. Some stalling for a month. I am curious how many of you did this? How many of you weigh every day versus every week? Did you try anything the first time you noticed your weight not moving?

I'm a week out and I'm not looking forward to having a stall.

I confess that I have been weighing every day. I know everyone says don't do that, but I am on week 2, and it is tough to stay away. The scale has not moved every single day and it can be a little discouraging. As the weeks go by, I think I will eventually move to only weighing myself once a week.

I never had a true stall. For it to be a stall, you have to lose zero pounds for at least 2 weeks.

Fortunately, I never experienced this until I was close to goal. I weigh every day, multiple times a day. I'm a bit compulsive, and during my "losing" stage it kept me accountable. It made me strive for my goal. Others do not want to have that on their mind, but my husband was deployed, I wasn't allowed to drive for quite some time, so I was pretty homebound. It sucked, but weighing gave me something to do as well. Next time, I'm going to pick up a crochet needle and yarn. LOL

I'm still scale obsessed at 8 months post-op. I don't see it changing even though I'm below goal.

My case manager told me to wait a week, then get on the scale daily for the rest of my life to keep me accountable.

Finally... someone telling me to weigh daily! :)

Yep, I have been sitting at 193 for three days now. I am trying to figure out why. I am obsessed. My boyfriend is telling me stop doing this to myself and try to weigh myself once a week. I don't think I am walking as much as I need to.

I weigh daily to remind myself that I am still working toward a goal. I have "slowed" in weight loss, but often find that in a couple of days I have lost more than 2 or 3 lbs. I also increase and change my activity monthly. I do strength training MWF and cardio the rest of the week. I work out 6 days a week. I lose the most on my strength training days. Changing your activity keeps your body guessing.

Hi, When I hit the stall, I looked into my diet, started reading the labels carefully - high protien and low carbs. Make sure you are not going lower than 800 calories, else the body tends to start hoarding. Had stalled for almost a month. I have switched to low sodium salt and the last week however has been great. Overall 31 pounds lost in 40 days (including no loss for 30 days).

On the weighing - my wife has hidden away the scales, I get it every weekend check. :thumbup:

Weighing daily keep you focused, but it is easy to get discouraged if you feel you aren't losing fast enough. It's a mind game, just don't let it get you down. Take measurements too, cause if the pounds aren't coming off, then guarantee, the inches are. This is a powerful tool, in a way, it's amusing, how little food you can eat. But, at 6 mos out, I can eat more than I could at 1 mo, for obvious reasons, so it's important to track on dailyplate or fitday or something so that you know what your intake is. It blows my mind that I ate high refined carbs for a whole week, and lost 2 lbs, finally getting 50 lbs off..and my waist has shrunk 10 inches too..so don't worry, this will work for you. I am not recommending high refined carbs though..it's very important to get in your Protein, without it, you might lose your hair, muscle, and your energy, but I am just saying, this will work for you, don't worry if you're not the fastest loser of the bunch, what counts is that you will reach your goal, and then maintenance comes in, and that is part 2. Life will get better in many ways, and you will be able to eat normally, normal foods eventually, and then you will have the skills to do it.

I will not weigh myself every day, it's just setting myself up for disappointment... At my doctor's advice I weigh myself once a week, and because I tend to retain some Water the week before my period starts I don't weigh myself then. Sometimes I forget and so there may be ten or fourteen days between my weigh-ins. I do however use an online calorie counter (it also tracks Protein and fat intake) every day so I know I'm not getting too many calories. I love weighing myself after a week as there has always been a lower number on the scales than last time! So far. I am definitely prepared for a stall, too. But having averaged 850 calories a day for the past two months, there is no way a stall would be permanent.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
