Observations...5 Days Out

Recommended Posts

I did get pancreatitis from my gall bladder needing to come out. The only way to cure it was nothing by mouth. I was on an IV for fluids, but I was without food for 5 days and I was not hungry once. gotta love that sleeve!

I'm glad you got over it OK. It is a very serious condition that can happen to sleevers if they get a severe gallbladder attack.

"When acute pancreatitis is mild, the death rate is about < 5%. However, in pancreatitis with severe damage and bleeding, or when the inflammation is not confined to the pancreas, the death rate can be as high as 10 to 50%."

Regarding hunger - I'm 3 wks out and was SO looking forward to starting mushies. Now that I can eat them I could care less!! Nothing looks good to me or smells good to me. I do good to get a couple of Protein Shakes down. Thank goodness for Isopure and it's 40+ grams of Protein per bottle or I'd be in trouble. I'm hoping in a few weeks when I can start to eat regular food the desire to eat will come back some.

Hi Suryfer!

Jeez, I was starting to think I was the only one in the Southeast with the exception of my sleeve buddy Gary from Arkansas! Which doc are you going to?? Staying in the U.S. or going abroad? The best of luck to you!!! To answer your questions... you know, I tried to get myself all worked up and in the nervous state of mind, but it never happened; I think I was just finally ready. I remember being MUCH more scared when I had my cesarean, etc. Anyway, you'll be fine, just think of getting around this big corner.

Now about a lot of pain post op... well, it wasn't easy that's for sure. It is major surgery, afterall. Days one and two stink. There's just no way or reason to sugar coat it. But, think of the big picture; two stupid, miserable days for literally, a new life! I was asked a couple of times during those two days if I regretted it. No. Not even during that rough stage. I knew it would pass and it sure has. I feel great only six days out! I did have some nausea due to my reaction to morphine but the docs took care of it immediately. It only happened a couple of times on day one and never again.

Take care and feel free to PM me or post here if you have more questions! I would love to meet you!!

Carol

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
