I'm home and doing well...

Recommended Posts

My surgery was scheduled for 2:30pm on wed and ended up not happening until 6:30pm wed night. It was a long wait at the hospital. Entering recovery I was nauseous, they gave me medicine and it was gone instantly. I had some pain and again they gave me medicine and it was gone instantly. I had a tough time breathing, that took 2 hours and then I felt great....Got to my room at 3am and was ready to hang out and watch TV or read. Realizing the time, I decided it was best to lay back and rest. On Thursday, I went for a swallow study, saw my sleeve and was cleared for 1 oz of liquids every hour. By 10:30 I was sitting up in a chair and starting to walk around. I did very well Thursay and even better this morning....Right before I was supposed to leave the hospital I felt really uncomfortable and completely weak and exhausted. The nurse gave me some tylenol with codeine, it knocked me out for an hour and after the rest I felt much better about coming home...Now I'm home and just chillin' out. I realized walking is good, but don't overdue.

I'm finding the liquids going down ok, I'm 2 ozs. every hour. Tomorrow I start back on Protein shakes...can't wait.....yummy...

So far the recovery is not as bad as I anticipated....To everyone who is considering the surgery, so far so good, it isn't too bad at all, ....

Hi Bambi,

I'm thrilled to hear that you're doing so well. How is it to lay in bed to sleep? Are you able to get comfortable?

I'm very excited to watch your progress!

Thanks everyone!!!

Bella - tonight will be my first night home in my own bed, so I will have to get back to you. I typically sleep on my back so it wasn't a problem in the hospital...Tylenol with codeine is working really nicely....

I am so glad you are home and doing well. My surgery was Monday. I have had a few more issues but nothing major. Thankfully it has all settled down and i am thrilled that I did this too.

Bella - no problems sleeping on my back in my own bed. I used 3 pillows to keep myself propped up so my incisions weren't pulling. Other then that, no issues at all....I kept moving my lefs around when I was sleeping because of the whole blod clot thing, but that's just me being over cautious....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
