BobBayCityMI 111 Posted January 27, 2010 My main dilemma lately has been not wanting to eat. Had my six month check-up yesterday and I am doing so well in many areas. My weight is down 115 pounds, my Vitamins and blood levels are very good, BP was 130/70. I mean, wow! But I am averaging less than 1000 cals per day. All told, I should be at 1400, but nothing sounds good to eat! I will stand in front of the fridge, like in the days of old, and stare. Now it is not how much I can pull out and consume, but more that nothing looks or sounds good. Any suggestions? My therapist suggested that it may be because it takes so much "effort" and time to eat right that it has lost the appeal it once had. Might be some truth to that. LAN2k 18 Posted January 27, 2010 I am 4+ months out and am having the same problem. Eating is such an effort and I must say that nothing appeals to me. This has happened before when I was put on antidepressant medication. Because of such a loss of appetite I went off the medication and was again able to at least find some foods appealing. Since I am suffering with anxiety and depression I was started again on Zoloft at a low dose but the same thing is happening and I haven't desire nor will to eat. Are you on any medication that may be causing this I wonder? 1 Ann10 reacted to this
Tiffykins 673 Posted January 27, 2010 I have to add a lot of variety to my menu because I got so burned out on so many foods during my recovery. I have had to get pretty creative in the kitchen, and what I found that helped me the most was hitting up recipe sites for ideas. I am literally addicted to recipe sites. I have 3 recipe apps on my Iphone, I hit them up on the web, I have been making a new recipe at least 3 -4 times a week. Luckily, the husband and kiddo are not picky because some of the stuff I've made is definitely out of our "norm". I still have some days that I absolutely hate eating because I'm still not feeling any hunger. So, I feel like I'm force feeding myself which is the complete opposite of my pre-op lifestyle. If you like to cook, I recommend these recipe sites because they are really great, and the reviews are very helpful with substitution options to make the recipes more healthy. www.allrecipes.com www.bigoven.com www.recipezaar.com Those are my top three sites that I frequent daily. Sometimes I'll hit up food Network - Easy recipes, Healthy Eating Ideas and Chef Recipe Videos : food Network if I want something a little extravagant/elegant. That's the only solution I've found helpful. It does take more effort now that it did before, and it does get frustrating. I hope you are able to find something that will help you. filodough 1 Posted January 27, 2010 I am only two weeks in, but might I suggest high-calorie foods that are good for you like nuts. They are fairly convenient (no prep), high calories, Protein, but good calories and fats.
