Back Pain after eating

Recommended Posts

That is weird Tiffy. Everyone I know who has had gall bladder pain had it on the right side, not left.

Cajun said her gall bladder is already out , I think!

I had one gallbladder attack last October while on an airplane. It centered right over my heart and I thought I was having a heart attack, except didn't panic because I'd been having other chest/back pains so it wasn't new. It lasted a few minutes, then subsided. It sounds like we've all had some different GB symptoms. I often got them in my back/side on the right which felt like a muscle spasm.

All of my pain went from below my sternum, in my stomach, and then it shot across my left rib and up to my left collarbone and hit where the collarbone and shoulder meet. It's a sharp, gnawing, constant pain. Not throbbing or thready.

Yesterday, the pain started radiating under both sides of my abdomen/ribs, and then up to my left collarbone and shoulder again.

Tiff, be sure they've checked out your pancreas too. Pancreatitis can result from gb inflammation and it causes more left sided abd and left shoulder pain. GB pain is predominately central or to the right.

A P-amylase test is what you need to evaluate the pancreas.

Yep, that's exactly what happened to me. It caused me extra time in the hospital, which stinks cause I have lousy insurance.

That type of pain is familiar to me, it was caused by my hiatal hernia, but that was repaired and the doc said it is not likely it would come back. However, I know in my case, since the sleeve, that this pain is directly related to my eating too fast or too much. The food could literally be stuck in the esophagus, or it gastroesophageal reflux. Gallbladder is typically right side under the breast, because that is where your gallbladder is. But even, if you have never had sxs of gallbladder disease, it can happen anytime, especially after rapid weight loss. Also, I remember that back pain, between the shoulder blades can also be a sxs of a heart attack in women. Gosh, I hope your not a hypochrondriac, because I am not helping!

Steph:

Nope, I'm not a hypochondriac. I'm kinda the opposite...what, me worry? type of person.

Thanks for your post.

Good to hear Tiff, that is a relief. I remember my mom went the the ER with chest pain so bad, she thought she was having a heart attack, it ended up being a hiatal hernia, but it's better to be safe than sorry, or worse, dead.

Anyone else get back pain after eating mushies or solids? I get it after eating even very mushy salmon diluted into a mush...it is right between my shoulder blades. I am not a person to take pain medicine but I have to stop working and take tylenol to get some relief, after I eat, the pain is so bad.

Anyone else getting this?

I've never had this pain with the sleeve, but when I had the lapband and something got stuck really bad, OMG, the pain between my shoulderblades was so severe, I knew when something had come unstuck finally when the pain subsided. My own fault for eating salads, but I just love(d) them so much!

I get pains like that now and I haven't had my surgery yet..I have had my gallbladder removed since 2008.. But I take an acid controller which helps me alot. I notice a huge difference if I don't take it. Also, I was told I should be tsted for H. Pylori which is a bacteria that causes ulcers from what I'm told it's very common if your prone to ulcers which I am. The treatment is several antibiotics at once and can be repeated w new antibiotics if tested and found the first round didn't kill the bacteria. I would definately talk to your doctor about the pain. It may be a simple med adjustment... Keep us posted and good luck!

Just an aside regarding H Pylori. Pre surgery I had it and had to take the "prevpac"?? (I think that was what it was called), treatment. It was a few pills a day including a PPI. After the 14 day treatment, my surgeon went ahead with my surgery (no retest). When I recently had blood-work done the H Pylori showed as positive. My surgeon said it meant nothing not to worry. I went to a GI specialist and he told me that once one gets H Pylori it will show up in the blood as positive for the rest of one's life, however it doesn't mean you are infected. He also said the ONLY way of really knowing if you have rid yourself of it is via a stool specimen test. So I had one done and it came out negative for H Pylori.

Yeah, the same thing happened to me. I had to have stool samples done too. The dr. told me I would always test positive for it.

Hi there. I just had my VGS on 12/20/10 and get the same pain between my shoulder blades after eating/drinking almost anything. It's so early in the game, I'm not concerned about my gallbladder because other pt's who had the surgery at the same time/location as I did are going through the same issues. I just have to eat/drink much, much slower and try to have 1/4 cup or less of whatever it is, even broth. I wish you well.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
