No I am scheduled for VSG and heard that some people get a port installed to drain the blood. I was wondering how it this determined? I have never had a band. This will be surgery for the first time for me so I am kind of full of questions :) My surgery is scheduled for the 1st of feb.

Some surgeons place a jp drain to allow excess Fluid to drain for a couple of days post-op, and/or to perform a leak test. I've never heard it called a port so that's why I was confused. I think that is what you're asking.

Every surgeon has a different technique. My surgeon does not put a drain in unless there are complications.

I had a drain in and like Tiffy said it was to drain excess Fluid, in my case it was blood and I had to record the amounts and times each time I emptied the bulb that filled with the blood. I had it in the hospital for the 5 days I was there and then about a week at home before it was removed at my first follow up visit.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
