No more diabetic medication !!

Recommended Posts

I got sleeved on Dec 21, within 4 days my sugar levels were under control with half the original medication (Metformin). Now after 20 days, my sugar was in full control without any medication at all, the first time in 5 years. I am careful though and check it with my glucometer at least thrice a day. Of course, I do exercise and walk for about 3 miles every day. Getting rid of diabetes medication is the best thing that is happening post-sleeve as my weight loss is slow.

That is fantastic! My Mom was a severe diabetic and I am afraid if I stay on the track I am on I will become one too. I have an appointment on February 11th for my surgical consultation. I cannot wait!

How was you pain level after surgery? How are you doing with cravings? Do you feel full all the time?

Margo

I was on very mild pain killers from day 2. Very tolerable, like a tummy ache actually. There is no "space" for cravings, feel full with just small portions. I am consuming about 800 cals/day, mostly protien shakes. Less of carbs. Plenty of walking and Water. All the best to you Margo.

Oh you do not know how glad I was to come across this thread. I have type II diabetes. I have had it for 16 years - medication controlled. I take minidiab, actos, and metaformin. I sure hope this surgery has the same effect on me. WTG and good luck in all you do...thanks for sharing.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
