Jury-duty policies?

Recommended Posts

This is interesting....I understand the states are pretty clear as to when/if you get your regular pay, after serving on a jury.

However, I am not so clear as to making "time" up at the job. Your husband was essentially working, as a juror. Now he is being penalized by working, at his real job, additional hours to make-up for jury duty. What's the law regarding this or is there?

Well, the law says that employers are not required to pay hourly employees for hours they don't actually work at their jobs, no matter what the circumstances. This is one of the big drawbacks of not being on salary. My husband gets two days off a week, normally Friday and Saturday. This week he was on jury duty on Tuesday, so he swapped his Friday off for that day, being a good guy and all. When his jury duty went into a second day, I just assumed they'd give it to him, since he was accommodating about the first day (I didn't think he should lose a day at all, silly naive me.)

So the employer isn't actually doing anything wrong, just being penny-pinching and obnoxious.

Our company policy is to pay employees for 8 hours a day when serving on jury duty. We would not pay overtime if the actually worked under 40 hours. For example if they worked 36 hours but were off 2 days (16 hours) for jury duty they would get paid for 46 hours at their regular rate not 6 hours of overtime. No federal law requires an employer to pay a non-exempt employee for jury duty. I don't know about your state laws. When an employer pays an employee for jury duty is is a benefit of working for that company. I think most companies pay their employees their regular rate of pay for jury duty. Some companies deduct the amount the employee receives for the jury duty.

Your husbands Personnel Policy manual should outline their policy on jury duty.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
