beachgirl 2 Posted May 26, 2006 How ever you spell it do I have to have a catherder for my lap band surgery. I know I've asked so many questions but I rely on all of you bandsters for knowledge. You some of you care to tell me your pre op tests, I'm one of those who panics from tests. Thank you so much and I know you'll all be proud when mine's done so I won't keep asking so many questions. leatha_g 4 Posted May 26, 2006 Each Dr is different in their protocol. I'd advise you to ask your dr directly, rather than getting yourself all worked up over what someone else's Dr required. For my first band surgery, I did have catheter inserted in the OR. For my second, I did not. Different Dr's do different things. :cake:
DrewsLou 3 Posted May 26, 2006 I did not have a catheter, but I was only in surgery for less than an hour!
K@t 38 Posted May 26, 2006 I didn't have a catheter during surgery, but they put one in me while i was still asleep when i got out, and i kept it all night, which in the long run was kinda nice (if a bit uncomfortable) because I didn't have to get up all night to go pee. It was only in the morning when they took it out and I got up, and it was actually quiet painless.
fishy 0 Posted May 26, 2006 D'oh! Ouch - I hope I am :notagree before they do that to me, if they do.
chabutter 0 Posted May 26, 2006 they usually dont have one in short surguries. I had two short hour and one half long surguries on my elbows and they had me use a bed pan because i forgot to go before getting all hooked up.
disneynut 0 Posted May 27, 2006 Nope, didn't get one either. Though after I was moved to my room they kept asking me if I had to go. No, I don't I told them and then they did a bladder ultrasound and told me if I don't go soon, they would have to put one in. Not for me I said to myself and miraculously needed to go to the bathroom very soon after that. I was fine without it and that was the reason I was up out of bed often enough throughout the night and got my my walking in also. They really do put a lot of Fluid into you with the IV. Elisabethsew 50 Posted May 27, 2006 I was in the OR for a little over an hour and a half and DID have a catheter but it was inserted when I was under anesthesia. I came out of the OR at 6:30 PM and the catheter was removed at midnight (no pain at all).
DonnaB 3 Posted May 27, 2006 No catheter for me. Ask your doc about it though.
Iluvharleys 15 Posted May 27, 2006 I had one, and I was glad I did! It didn't hurt at all, and I got a great nights sleep!:biggrin1:
SRaeM 0 Posted May 27, 2006 None for me and I still was OK all night. The next day they wouldn't let me leave until they had measured a certain amount of urine had passed.
sleepyjean 0 Posted May 27, 2006 I didn't have a catheter, thank goodness. I must say though, it was weird peeing in a cup so they could measure fluids going in vs. fluids coming out.
Stitchy 0 Posted May 27, 2006 I don't think I had one, but I didn't ask. If I did, I was asleep and didn't care.
cookgal 0 Posted May 27, 2006 I was banded on Wednesday (5/25) & didn't have one. I was on a 12 hour fast so by the time I got the operating room I had nothing left in me. I was only in surgery for about 20 minutes! Dr. Ortiz gets you in & our very quickly!
beachgirl 2 Posted May 27, 2006 Oh Thank God, someone who just had it done by Dr. Ortiz. I just posted a new thread. Would you please read it and tell me your thoughts. Please. I'm wanting him to do mine but had some questions. Thank you, Sherri
