Is it true about catherder

Recommended Posts

How ever you spell it do I have to have a catherder for my lap band surgery. I know I've asked so many questions but I rely on all of you bandsters for knowledge. You some of you care to tell me your pre op tests, I'm one of those who panics from tests. Thank you so much and I know you'll all be proud when mine's done so I won't keep asking so many questions. LOL

Each Dr is different in their protocol. I'd advise you to ask your dr directly, rather than getting yourself all worked up over what someone else's Dr required. For my first band surgery, I did have catheter inserted in the OR. For my second, I did not. Different Dr's do different things. :cake:

I didn't have a catheter during surgery, but they put one in me while i was still asleep when i got out, and i kept it all night, which in the long run was kinda nice (if a bit uncomfortable) because I didn't have to get up all night to go pee. It was only in the morning when they took it out and I got up, and it was actually quiet painless.

they usually dont have one in short surguries. I had two short hour and one half long surguries on my elbows and they had me use a bed pan because i forgot to go before getting all hooked up.

Nope, didn't get one either. Though after I was moved to my room they kept asking me if I had to go. No, I don't I told them and then they did a bladder ultrasound and told me if I don't go soon, they would have to put one in. Not for me I said to myself and miraculously needed to go to the bathroom very soon after that. I was fine without it and that was the reason I was up out of bed often enough throughout the night and got my my walking in also. They really do put a lot of Fluid into you with the IV.

I was in the OR for a little over an hour and a half and DID have a catheter but it was inserted when I was under anesthesia. I came out of the OR at 6:30 PM and the catheter was removed at midnight (no pain at all).

None for me and I still was OK all night. The next day they wouldn't let me leave until they had measured a certain amount of urine had passed.

I didn't have a catheter, thank goodness. I must say though, it was weird peeing in a cup so they could measure fluids going in vs. fluids coming out.

I was banded on Wednesday (5/25) & didn't have one. I was on a 12 hour fast so by the time I got the operating room I had nothing left in me. I was only in surgery for about 20 minutes! Dr. Ortiz gets you in & our very quickly!

Oh Thank God, someone who just had it done by Dr. Ortiz. I just posted a new thread. Would you please read it and tell me your thoughts. Please. I'm wanting him to do mine but had some questions.

Thank you,

Sherri

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
