Sleeve Gastrectomy (leakage)

Recommended Posts

hi there

I would ask about leaking after sleeve surgery.

Is there a possibility of leakage in the long term? (1 year or 2 year)

or

the stomach will be stable within 2 or 3 months?

thanks,

I'm pretty sure it's stable as soon as the incision /staple line is healed fully. (Maximum 6-8 weeks. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

My Surgeon said the stomach heals 50% within 72 hours and 100% within 3 months. Leakage is something that usually happens right away or later if you vomit a lot.

If the stomach is healed, I would hope vomiting would not rip it open! This should be a MAJOR concern if this is true! Holy c...... please tell me this isn't true...Gonna post to the MD on this site.

I meant to say the vomiting while healing can cause a leak. Not likely, but it can. After it is healed, it cannot be "ripped open" by vomiting as far as I know.
