help! - one week out

Recommended Posts

hey everyone,

so tomorrow(friday 22nd) will be one week out for me...i have a question concerning liquids though...

ok so when I drink Water or a Protein Shake I have a few sips, stop and wait for like 15 mins and then i have a few more sips is this what i should be doing? should i wait longer in between sips?

also, yesterday when we were traveling home(flew all day to get home) I had some broth in the airport and I did the same, had a teaspoon or 2, stopped, waited and had some more....IS MY STOMACH GOING TO STRETCH??? i am very scared i am drinking TOO much

please help me! I need advice on how to get through this liquid stage

I would say you are drinking too conservatively. One week after for me and I could kill at 12oz ready to drink Protein shake in about 20 minutes. Now 3 weeks later and it takes about 15 minutes. sugar free Poweraid goes down easy and quick too, about 1.5 hour to drink a 32 oz drink. Water is still tough for me, I wasn't a big Water drinker before, but now it is like it gets stuck easier. I drink a lot of the sugar free poweraid. I am trying to convert to water though.

Once you get to more solid foods you will know the full feeling and you will STOP, otherwise it hurts. The liquid is just going right through your stomach.

thank you for replying so quickly  I am just so scared of stretching my stomach! Is it possible at this stage? Right now I am loving the taste of broth(its like heaven) but what is too much at one sitting?

This might not be the right answer. This is just my experience. I am about three weeks out, and basically, I just drink what I want. I do not have any issue with liquids what so ever. I sip on a Protein Shake if it is acting as my meal, just to savor it a bit. But if I am adding Protein to a crystal light or tea to get it in, I just sip away. I think it is important to stay hydrated, and drinking no-cal beverages is not what got me to need the sleeve, so I do not worry about it. I do not "believe" beverages can stretch the sleeve, I may be mistaken. Since my surgery I do not drink any carbonated beverages or coffee (because I used a lot of cream and sugar), but otherwise I do not really monitor the no-cal beverages the way I do my food.< /p>

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
