My surgeon requires 60 grams of Protein per day (I think). I went home on full liquids, so that is the day I started trying to get them down. I never did very well with them, but finally found a couple I could tolerate. As soon as I was on soft/mushy foods, I tried to get my protein in through food. At times I would add them back in for like a week, but just never really liked them much. I'd much rather use food for my protein.

I started mine on my pre-op diet 2x a day. Now I'm 2 weeks post-op (started mushies Monday) and I am still doing 2 a day, with milk, which gives me a total of 64g of Protein from shakes. I noticed quite a few people on here get their Protein from food instead of shakes, but when I asked my dietitian about it she said it would be months before I got off the shakes (but that I can eventually). But that's just one program's opinion. I'm going to keep doing what they tell me, but as seen from others' posts, it's not right or wrong either way, just varies by program kinda like the pre-op diet.:biggrin0:

Oh & I finally found one that I LIKE and don't just tolerate. It's here Bodybuilding.com - Optimum 100% whey Protein - With Faster-Acting HYDROWHEY! On sale now! and I drink the caramel toffee fudge. I think it's yummy! Tiffykins recommends the variety pack that they sell on that site, which is how I found the caramel toffee fudge. :blushing:

a bodybuilding friend suggested one and i already ordered a variety pack with 16 different flavors to check them out......

......i think it is the same as yours.

100% whey Gold Standard | The 100% Whey Family

but it seems not every package size has all flavors.

Every program is different. My doctor doesn't want me drinking Protein Shakes, either before or after surgery. I have to admit that I've been having some to help me get to my pre-surgery goal weight.

tdriver, yeah I think the majority of flavors are in there but it seems like there are a few missing. I wished cake batter had been included cuz that's what kind of ice cream I always used to eat! :drool5:

That's the first time I've heard of a doctor doing that, so I'm curious - what was his reasoning? I know mine stress and stress and stress the shakes, which is alright by me, just a new routine!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
