Perisistant vomiting r/t sleeve

Recommended Posts

Sir,

I have a sleeve done sept 2008, since I have had persistant problems with emesis and regurgitation. Even Water comes back up. We did a xray where I swallowed some dye but the dye came back up too. Was hospitalized 1 week ago for dehydration, kept me for 2 days with .9 at 250cc/hr. This doesn't seem to be working for me, what are my options? Surgeons I've spoken with say that they think I should go back to dr pleatman. but I had to pay cash for this and I am on disability now. Now on antidepressants, klonopin and trazadone to sleep. Can you suggest anything?

how long after surgery did this begin? is it possible that you have a sleeve stricture? has anyone done an endoscopy?

Your problem seems serious and is probably not going to be well addressed on a forum like this. Persistent vomiting with any weight loss operation is not normal. An Upper GI xray will usually diagnose the problem. An endoscopy can usually treat it. You should see your surgeon as he will have the advantage of understanding the anatomy after looking at the Upper GI. He would then be able to decide if you would need an endoscopy, medications, etc.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
