feeling down and doubtful...

your uncles are just mean. mean people suck. That is a line form some movie I saw. anyway take all the advice posted before me and make up your own mind.

I love my sleeve. I researched the band 4 years ago and decided it was not for me based on the few numbers of people reaching and maintaing goal. It took me 3+ years to find out about the sleeve.

I am on to the happiest, healthyest, sexiest, life possible for me.

I wish you the same.

Good luck sweetie, keep posting.

A couple things.. I am a band to sleeve conversion. The band ate thru my stomach, the port attached to my body (and can't be removed) and the band has ruined my life. I am a highly educated woman that cannot even work due to daily pain. I have to take lyrica and oxycontin just to try to get thru the day because of the pain the band has brought to my body. It's insane how my life went from perfect to a nightmare because of the lapband and my body attacking it.

I love my sleeve and only pray that after I lose weight, they will be able to see exactly how the port is attached to my body and can possibly remove it and relieve me of the daily torment I live in because of it.

I have had no problems with the sleeve.. no complaints whatsoever. It has saved my life and I've lost 70lbs in 14 weeks!!! =)

It sounds like to me that the man that died did have the sleeve BUT also had the switch which is what causes nasty diarrhea if you eat too much fat and can also cause malnourishmentbecause it is a bypass surgery. I have NEVER heard of someone with just the sleeve having those issues or dying. It sounds like they only know part of the story.

I honestly feel that the sleeve is the best weightloss surgery available to us at this time due to it's low risk of complications with comparable weightloss to the RNY. In fact, I've lost more than some RNYers that had surgery at the same time as I did.. probably because since I don't have the malabsorption, I know EXACTLY what nourishment is going into my body and can better control my exact caloric intake than someone with RNY.

I firmly believe that the band is a terrible device. Our bodies are not designed to have a piece of plastic in them and for many people it causes a lot of problems. I had the lapband with a group of 7 girls and 1 guy. 9 of us in total and all but one of us has been revised, reversed, or replaced with our lapbands. I think that speaks VOLUMES.

I had the sleeve done in Jun 2008 and walked a half marathon (13.1 miles) last Sunday is just under 3 hrs and 15 minutes (about 15 min/mi). I would hardly call that NO energy.

I am not sure where your family go their info from but it is just wrong. There is NO malabsorbtion so I am not sure how anyone could die of malnutrition unless they just stopped eating altogether.

Please educate yourself from folks that have actually "been there done that" personally not stories from someone who knew someone that told them about someone who knew someone.....

I highly doubt that being sleeved can make me die from malnutrition. actually I eat very good:) I have no problems with almost all food. I can eat anything but little. it is definitely impossible to die from malnutrition. actually I feel I need to be sleeved again to gain more restriction..lol.

Hi Sweetie

You know we all want what is best for you!! And because we have all been there we have a good idea of what that is!! I will tell you here and now, I think the band is downright dangerous!!! But if that is your choice then I will hug you and hope for the best! Do I think the sleeve is the best thing since sliced bread YES!!! I think all of us overweight people could learn from the sleeve. Keep us posted on your new sleeve!!!

Don't listen to me, talk to Dr B, he is an expert on weight loss. He will advise you to get the sleeve.

You do NOT have the problems with malnutrition, with the sleeve. Eat well and watch what it is that you put into your month. You still have to be careful what you put into your mouth and how much of it you put in.

Did not understand all of your post, saying that you need to be sleeved again, give us more info!

STEVE

I love ya man!!!

You don't even have the sleeve but you help people!!!!!!!!! Love ya, and your wife, for putting up with your lap banded tummy LOL LOL:thumbup:

People want to believe that what they did was the best decision. It is just human nature.

Don't do it!!!! Get the sleeve and be done.

Sorry Macmadame

Is not my favorite person, so I don't really want to read what she has to say!! I would rather do my own research. I'm sure she is a perfectly nice person, she just has a thing about my surgeon.

OMG, WTF??????????????????????????? Are we "chet" stirring again???????? What ????????????????? Oregon's post was providing the links Macmadame has posted, not what Macmadame has to say!!!!!! Is this thread gonna be hijacked to bash Macmadame, who hasn't even posted for quite a while???????????????

So what if you don't like her. She has invaluable research links that are all compiled in one area.

Regardless if y'all get along or not, there is no reason to come here and bash her. Especially since she is no longer part of this forum.

Hi Pot, Meet Kettle. When people talk about bashing surgeons and experiences, this is a prime example of the pettiness that clogs up the forum, and gives it a bad rep.

Sorry for offending all of you!! I had no idea she was not posting anymore, and was not trying to stir anything up! Sorry if it came across that way.

The links she has on her profile are great studies that were done on the sleeve. It's nice to be able to click on them and read all sorts of studies and research. It doesn't matter how you feel about her. It's not about her, it's about research on the sleeve done by DOCTORS not by her.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
