Tijuana,Mexico? Passport?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if any one went to Tijuanan, Mexico for there surgery and if they doctor and nurses and facility were nice and up to standards? Do you need a passport and how long does it take to get one and how much does it cost to buy one? Is it safe to go to Tijuana and get back safely. I hear all these stories about not being able to come back and getting taken and stuff(they might send me back!lol)? Any insight on these problems?

It would help if we knew which surgeon you were considering then we can direct you to the appropriate threads with people's experiences.

Here's the link for information on getting a passport and the cost associated with the process.

hi, i got my sleeve in Mexicali, with Dr. Aceves. I had a wonderful experience with the staff, never had any complications.

If you need more info regarding your passport and cost, why don't you give Nina a call. She's the patient coordinator and she'll gladly give you all this info.

You will need a passport. It's not hard. Takes 6-8 weeks to process. You can google on how to do it.

I don't know anything about the Tijuana doctors, sorry I'm no help.

Good luck!

On the way into Tijuana they don't even stop you, the car just slows down and they wave you thru. On the way back, you have to sit in line. It took us a little while maybe 20 minutes. No here is the funny thing, I did not have a passport because I had to have emergency surgery. I did take all of my appropriate documentation, but no passport. On the way back into the states I got a butt chewing from the border patrol agent. I explained to him I needed emergency surgery etc. He still felt it was appropriate to give me a long lecture about how long it has been since passports were required!!! As soon as we passed him we all cracked up laughing! I think I'm going to apply for a passport, just in case I might get to have a "real" vacation!!!

Good luck to you!!

No, people cross here all the time without passports. It would be a violation of international human rights to require a citizen to present a passport in order to enter their own country. We'll be doing an entry on our blog soon about this question, just to set everyone's minds at ease.

I did not say that I do it all the time, I was an emergency surgery, had to have it done ASAP! I had to cross my fingers and hope they did not detain me. It did help that I was in a vehicle plainly marked Jeruselum Medical!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
