Is this normal or abnormal?!?!

Recommended Posts

So a question for all you post-ops out there, does your stomach fill up a lot quicker once you're out of the liquids stage? I keep reading about how people can only have 1,2,3 sometimes 4oz before they're stuffed... I'm 7days post-op & can slowly sip 1cup of broth at lunch and dinner. Is this weird, should I be concerned or will I start to feel this "fullness" that everyone talks of more once I'm into real food?

Thanks, any thoughts are appreciated!

Yes, you will notice a huge difference when you move to solid food. Your stomach is healing, and the staple line needs to be protected at this time. Drink your liquids slowly and follow your doctor's post op diet.

For me, once I was cleared to start on solid food, I found it very difficult to eat. I ate about 2-4 small bites of solid food a couple of times a day and continued to supplement with mushie foods and liquids until I learned to eat again. This is a learning process!

I had the same fear. But once I started eating solid Protein, all those fears were laid to rest. I can eat maybe 1/4 to 1/2 of a 4 oz chicken breast before i'm stuffed.

Thanks for the replies, I feel much better! I am following the post-op diet to a tee (so much actually that I'm shocked at myself!) but just haven't felt those full feelings yet. I'll chalk it up to the liquids & keep sipping away & see how things go once I get some real food in!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
