If you're going to Mexico for a lapband read this!

Just remember in Mexico, that is all they do is put in bands. They don't care about your welfare or if you need this or that, they just want to get the money from you and what recourse do you have? NONE!!

BRAVO, BRAVO, BRAVO!!!

I disagree with willbethin too. I think the post is absurd and that a 168 pound person should not be banded and that the whole thing smells like an advertisement.

But if I had been through what DeLarla has been through with her band I would be agreeing right along with her.

A QUESTION THEN, IF YOU AGREE THAT THIS BAND IS TOO BIG, AND IF SHE WOULD’VE HAD HER SURGERY IN THE STATES, USING AN INAMED BAND, WHAT BAND SHOULD HAVE BEEN USE? I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THE SIZE OF THE BAND WAS DETERMINED BY THE THICKNESS OF THE STOMACH. NOT BMI<O:p</O:p

<O:p</O:p

PLEASE EDUCATE ME, THANKS J<O:p</O:p

I have chosen a doctor in Mexico, Dr. Rumbaut. I feel extremely comfortable with my decision. I have heard so many good things from other patients that chose Rumbaut and other good docs in Mexico. In fact I think if we did a survey we'd find that patients that go to Mexico that followed their doctors post-op instructions and get good follow up care are just as successful as US patients. I believe Dr. Rumbaut cares. He has a band himself and his coordinator Cathy does too! She and I talked on the phone for over 30 minutes the other day. She NEVER mentioned money and I hadn't sent my deposit as of yet. She spent those 30 minutes getting to know me and my history. She said she wanted to make sure that I knew what to expect from the lap-band. She also encouraged me and told me that lap-band would help me experience things I've never been able to experience.

It's very easy when you have had a bad experience to expect the same for others and it's good to be cautious when it comes to your body. BUT research, a good attitude and realistic expectations pay off. I have learned so much from the bandsters on LBT and I still feel like I am making the best choice for me and my family.

Just a peripheral point ... the 11cm band is not the same band as the VG band, although it is similar in size and capacity. It's also an Inamed band but it is not approved for use in the United States.

well the old saying is "everyone is entitled to their own opinions" so i guess that applies to this thread.

Most of you know the experience i had with my doctor but he made everything right. It was a MISTAKE...And ALLLLL doctors can make them no matter what part of the Globe they are from... ALL DOCTORS!

Witht his band as with ANY surgical procedures there is a risk factor....SOMEONE HAS TO BE THAT RISK....I was one and i know there are others amongst us.

Its easy when your angry to point the finger...but does it solve anything? No..might make you feel better for a second but that too passes...

Good luck with your weight loss and i hope the tool (the band) you recieved to do this aids you.

My fill Doctor here in the states told me Thursday that with all the research he has been doing, he has found that the VG band has WAY less problems than the others and more Doctors are going to start using them here. He said they're softer and fit better along the stomach. I don't know if that means they have been FDA approved or not, just repeating what he said.

"My new doc.... He told me he would have never put a band in me and would have done another surgery."

This is what jumped out at me in your post. I cant imagine any credible doctor performing ANY kind of WLS on someone with a BMI under 30 that weighs 168 lbs. Was your new doc suggesting that bypass would have been a better option for you? That is truly frightening.

I went to Mx year and half ago to be banded by Dr. Sanchez. I was 32 BMI.

I don't regret it for a second!! I am an RN and can tell you the medical care was supurb and Dr. Sanchez and his team true professionals. It is true that the weight loss is slower with a low BMI, but I have lost 30 lbs and kept it off. My joints don't ache, my back feels better and I feel so much better about myself. I agree that it is our body, our money and our decision to get the band... BUT... don't slam MX doctors. I am headed back down for my second cosmetic surgery procedure on Monday. I can afford to have it here but have chosen to go to MX because the doctor is better than any of the best around me...

NO, he was recommending something else but he does other weight loss surgeries other then the band that the doctors in Mexico ONLY do.....I realize some of you are angry about what I said but I am only educating the ones that think Mexico is the ONLY place to go, as I did. Most people can see that I am only trying to help and why people are angry about it??? Maybe you all can afford to travel to Mexico for fills? Why would you do that if you can travel within our Country and have recourse if anything is to happen to you? In Mexico you have NO Rights!!! It is also difficult to find a fill doctor when having surgery in Mexico. They don't want the liability.....

And yes, why would a doctor perform a lapband procedure on someone 168? Wake Up People!!!

The INAMED band is FDA approved. The other is made in SWEDEN and is a much better band and has less slippage. The doctors also get the swedish bands cheaper. If you go to Mexico you have no idea what band you're getting even if they give you literature from another box. All I am saying is that you have recourse in the States, you have little to none in Mexico.

I am not sure what the President has to do with the lapband but your comment certainly shows how ignorant people can be. This is exactly why I am trying to show others there is a choice out there and Mexico isn't the only option. Big deal if the Mexico doctor has done 4,000 lapband procedures! That is all they do because that is what the Americans are paying for.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
