How does the sleeve change menstrual cycles? I don't have bad cycles (I've been lucky that way) with heavy cramps, bloating, and such. However, my cycles do heavily control how I eat. A few days before my cycles begin I feel as if I HAVE to eat everything that I can lay my hands on. And I crave strange things as if I am a pregnant woman, which if funny because when I was pregnant I didn't crave a thing. Also, does it change anything else about the cycles?

I am only 5.5 months post-op, but so far my 1st and 4th period after surgery were horrible where the cramps were concerned (but I've had horrific periods since I got them at 11). The great thing that happened for me is my cycle became regular since surgery...it was way off before. Immediately after surgery I didn't really have any cravings (but did before) and basically crave and want to eat foods now because I feel that getting something in my stomach will somehow take away the bloating and cramps, which my brain knows really isn't true.

My period is typically lighter, and shorter now. I still retain Water, but that's probably because I consume more salt the week before. I've had to switch from Super Tampons to Regular tampons. I had a rough cycle this last time but it only lasted 3 days. I used to go for 6 days pre-op, so I welcome the 3 day cycle. I'm not on any type of hormonal birth control either.

I don't seem to cramp as much. I don't find that my want/desire for food is bad before my period. I just want salty/crunchy stuff. I will eat a couple of big pretzel sticks, and that "craving" is satisfied. Or, I'll have some Sociable crackers with cream cheese. I'm not anymore hungry before my period than I am another day.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
