I have hypothyroidism and would like to know if there is anyone else out there that has had surgery that does as well. If so, does it have any effect one way or another on your results/eating/supplements/etc...?

I was on the very low end with my T4 levels pre-op with my band, and with my sleeve revision. My revision surgeon said it might resolve on it's own after I lost weight.

At my 3 month follow-up, my thyroid levels were right in the middle of the "normal".

I just had my labs pulled yesterday, and will get the results Monday. They did an extensive thyroid panel so I'll share the results when I get them on Monday.

Thanks, Tiffykins. You're the best and I appreciate you sharing any information. I have my fingers crossed and can hoping my surgeon can shed more light on the subject this Thursday at my consult.

I am fairly new here - actually I've been lurking for a couple of months but thought I could provide some info on this subject. I was diagnosed with Graves (hyperthryoidsm) and could not be treated with meds so I ended up with the radioactive iodine treatment which means no thyroid. I had always been a big girl but after being "nuked" and the doctor I had at that time had me on many many different meds for they thyroid that is when I really started to gain weight - finally found a doctor who had a clear understanding of the thyroid and meds to treat it and got me on the right dose - in the meantime I put on about 75lbs ... I had my surgery almost 4 months ago and have lost 60lbs. I saw my endo about 8 weeks after surgery and at that time had lost 45 lbs - he was so thrilled I thought he would soil himself - his concern now is that we will need to reduce the dose of meds due to the weight loss - will see him in about a month for more labs but I guess my long tale was to explain that you can lose weight with hypothyroidism ... good luck to you!!!

I have hypothyroidism and lost 70 pounds with the band. I've since gained some back and now the sleeve is going to help me get it back off. Anyway, my endo's only concern is that I not be taking too much syntnhroid and told me to watch out for symptoms like feeling jittery, that could be a sign of too much medicine.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
