Dr. Jossart,<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Been getting conflicting information about revisions.

1. The band should be removed first than after x amount of time a sleeve can be placed. Rational: The area around the band will be irritated after taking the band out due to adhesion having to be cut to get the band out.

2.Taking band out and sleeve in the same procedures.

I will have had my band ~1 year.

What is your view?

D.

I have the same question, a friend wants to know if on the same day the band is removed she can have the sleeve done.

I'm not the doctor, but my revision was done during the same surgery that my band was removed. Most of Dr. Aceves's revisions are done that way. Not sure about other surgeons.

If the band is tolerated(no vomiting problems) and an Upper GI xray looks good, then it is very possible to do both band removal and conversion to sleeve. If the Upper GI shows problems, then it may be best to limit the operation to band removal only. Band removal to sleeve is not exactly straightforward and proper sizing of the pouch becomes more difficult. Be aware that you may not be as restricted as a sleeve patient who never had a band.
