Another food for thought moment

Recommended Posts

I get a lot of questions about "what do you eat?" Instead of trying to explain portion size, or what exactly I eat, I figure pictures work a little better.

Tonight's menu:

T-Bone (approx. 1 inch thick after grilling over charcoal) steak with A1 thick & hearty sauce (I ate all but 2 bites of the steak)

Green Giant Veggie Medley (new potatoes, snap peas I don't eat the shells, and red peppers) Steamed with herb sauce (I only ate 2 of the smaller potatoes pictured).

As you can see, even at 7 months out, I still off a salad plate.

I feel 100% satisfied. The steak was cooked about medium, and I was able to chew it normally. It took me about 35 minutes to eat tonight.

After looking at that ... Who's hungry besides me?

Tiffy that's actually quite a bit of meat. I don't think I can eat that much steak. Mushy foods I can eat more of, but steak or chicken makes me full after about 5 bites.

You are really eating so healthy!

WTG!

Thank you. . . I counted it out as 9 bites, and I think the A1 helps make it easier to go down. It's a bad habit I picked up with the band. My meat has to be moist, and John said, that I grilled the steak just a bit more than medium rare. So, it was super tender, and pretty mushy. A couple of bites, and it had the consistency of tuna salad with mayo. Maybe that's why I could eat so much tonight? I probably could have eaten the other potatoes, but I got a twinge, and am not willing to push any limits.

I'm having a glass of wine tonight in celebration of the new season Project Runway ! ! ! I definitely got in plenty of calories today. Stayed at around 58 carbs, so I'm content with intake today. I need to check the carb count on wine since I've never plugged into myfitnesspal to check it. I may be over on my carbs for today, but I'm content.

I had my 6 month labs pulled today including cholesterol, full thyroid panel, folic acid/b12, vit d, vit d3. . . Should have all the results by Monday. I'm stoked to see my results.

Oh I can't wait to hear how they come out. I am bummed that my vit D 3 has not gone up at all and I am anemic. Iron is not fun to take and you have to be so careful as to when to take it.

Are you going to be in the chat room tonight?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
