Weary from Dieting

I can't help but think we are all here because we are tired of dieting.....but what is needed after the op (which I am considering at the moment, 2 surgeons to see and chat to) is careful dietary habits after the surgery.

If you look at the document Tiff posted about the Sleeve Diet Guide, while you can still eat everything in time, you need to make careful decisions to maximise the efficiency of the operation, (and your money!!), but also for your health.

The 60% Protein will help to minimise hair loss (something I am petrified about!).

I don't think that learning about this stuff and having to calculate some things each day is too much to ask considering where it will get me in the future. If I had bothered to do that in the past I probably wouldn't be here now looking for such a drastic solution! And thats with a history of 21 yrs of battling with diets, yoyoing, and never reaching my goal. But in hindsight everything is so much easier!!

Hi sparkle, yeah i agree, and i'm going to be doing that once my tummy gets used to things. . for example last nights dinner was 1/2 a chicken leg, 1/2 a piece of 1/8 slice of avacado, and 2 brussel sprouts, I was so darn full I had to walk around to help the discomfort of gluttony! but i eat whatever, just make really sure it's fat free, low fat, and sugar free. . .otherwise whatever. . . haven't tried too many carbs (I'm afraid of those ) but i will be basically eating whatever. . .

I totally agree - I too am so weary of dieting and counting only to be confused... it is better to count points, fats, carbs or calories?? So confusing and tired you quit in defeat and learn to live with de-fat. It is empowering to have a clear path to a goal.

I think the biggest thing to take into consideration is that the sleeve honestly makes the decision-making process of "what" to eat so much easier. We all know we need to get in the Protein, we all know that carbs are evil, they made us fat to begin with, and we all know that we have trigger foods, and habits that got us here.

Really, until you are personally a few months out, living day in and day out with the sleeve, it's so effortless to eat and feel good about using food for fuel.

And, Sparkle, don't let that myth about keeping your Protein intake up with keep your hair from falling out fool you. There's plenty of members here that got in their protein from their first week post-op, and they were getting in 60-80 grams a day, but they still lost hair.< /span>

It's a result for a traumatic surgical event, and anesthesia. It's pretty inevitable for most WLS patients to lose their hair to some degree. Mine started about 3.5 months post-op and last 3 months.

Sparkle, remember stress can help the hair to fall out more, so don't stress it so much, just go with the flow and like whatever. . . it'll all fall into place (no pun intended) eventually. . . it's only temporary, I'm just accepting whatever with "whats to be is whats to be" . . . only a suggestion.

I've got the two quotes in from my local surgeons, so will chat everything over with hubby, and prob book a consult with them.

You can take Biotin or other similar hair/skin/nail supplement a few weeks pre-op to help with regrowth and continue to take it post-op. Some people increase their zinc intake to help combat the hairloss. But, discuss that one with your doctor.

Congrats on getting closer to getting your consults scheduled.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
