Day 4 of pre-op diet

Recommended Posts

Well today is the 4th day for my pre-op diet and it pretty much sucks. The second day was the hardest but it seems to be getting easier each day. I have cheated a couple of time (nothing big) but as of this morning I had lost 5lbs....GO ME...WOOHOO!!! Man just losing 5lbs makes me happy, I can only imagine what a 100 will fell like. :thumbup1:

I tried to stop smoking at the same time as I started the pre-op diet but it's just to hard to do both at the same time. I have cut back to only a couple a day. Since I haven't even met with my doc yet he hasn't told me to stop smoking. Does anyone know the rules of smoking before surgery?

My insurance informed out class ( I have Kaiser) we or rather they had to be smoke free for at least 6-9 weeks.

My surgeon said he will not do the surgery if you're still smoking...they will test your blood for tobacco usage.

Hi, this was my 3rd day and I think I'm doing ok. I thought that I would miss coffee more. I've been on a restricted diet for 14 days and I have lost 16 lbs. I go to Puerto vallarta and have the sleeve done by Dr. Joya. Best of luck to you!

Hang in there pre-op diet ladies. I am on day 6, have lost more weight than I thought I would. I think I had a lot of Water build up. It do feel good to loose, but this diet is starving me. <1,000 calories a day, a lot of Unjury, water, Jello, and broth. I got some powdered Peanut Butter yesterday to put in my vanilla Unjury for a change up. I am not suppose to put fruit in it on the pre-op diet. Any creative suggestions appreciated.

Sobe life Water has a lot of Vitamins in it. No sugar. It helped me make it through and is still my main Fluid intake. Target puts it on sale frequently, two 20 oz bottles for 1 buck. Lots of flavors. I love it.

Loser, that's a great idea about Peanut Butter powder in the unjury. Thanks for that tip!

Kaiser in northern california tests your urine to determine whether you've been smoking. I know someone that just met her pre-op weight goal and now has to wait 2 weeks for the test to come back before they'll schedule surgery.

I went to a hypnotist in 1990 and haven't smoked since. I was pack a day smoker for 22 years. It really worked for me!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
