Recently I started looking up the things important to me in a doctor and I found Dr. Scarborough at TLC Surgery in Houston. I did not go to the seminar, on a leap of faith I just made an appointment and went to talk to him face to face. I liked him. Less of a marketing person (I can relate) and more of a surgeon. I can deal with that.

He really did not recommend the lap band for me because he felt I might have trouble losing enough. He did not recommend the bypass for me b/c he felt I might lose too much. He really recommended the sleeve b/c he felt it would be the best long term solution.

When I saw the diagram of how this works, I thought, this is the simplest thing I have ever seen. Totally common sense.

I can tell reading everyones posts this will be a journey and not all easy times. So I am planning to have it done soon, but will wait for a couple of my work projects to pass so I can be more relaxed to heal. It is hard to pick just the right time.

My question is, how many weeks after surgery does it take to feel really good or at least as good as you felt before surgery?

I'm 2 weeks out today after a revision, I feel very good!! The first week for me was a little tough, but it was because of all the damage the band had done!! Now at 2 weeks I can walk 2-3 miles no problem, work a full day, clean house etc. The only thing is that I still get tired quicker. No problem though.

Good luck on your surgery, looks like you have found a good Dr. You will like the sleeve it is an amazing tool!!

Hi and welcome to VST.

The recovery time varies by person, but it seems the general concensus seems to be by week 2 most are feeling much better.

Almost 2 weeks after your surgery you will feel as you were pre-op.

Welcome!

It really does vary. I felt better about 1.5 weeks post-op (almost normal), but was still very exhausted in the afternoons. That went away and I started feeling pretty energetic around 4 weeks out.

I started feeling pretty normal 4 days out, and completely fine physically in 2 weeks. I can't wait to go back to work on tuesday though . . .

You said you did yours thru Dr Scarborough. Thats who I am seeing. I have a Lap Band right now but it has slipped and causing some problems. He is suggesting the Sleeve. My question is, since you have worked with his office, how long did it take to get insurance approval and then how long did it take to get all the evaluations done... Thanks for the help and good luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
