I've been MIA on here, but look what's happened!

It's been a while since I've logged on to VST. I visit OH mostly & trying to keep up with two message boards was too hard. So, I've been limiting my time online. Here's my update...

VSG was 7-7-09 with Dr. Aceves. I started at 201, 5'4. About two weeks ago, I had my gallbladder removed as I had many stones & was having some bad attacks. I am feeling much better from that! I'm glad that sucker is gone & will not be giving me anymore trouble.

I was 2 lbs away from my goal (135 lbs) before I had the gallbladder surgery. I put on about 4-5 lbs from the surgery (fluids & swelling). It was dissheartening to be so close to my goal & then see the scale move up even if I KNEW it was all Fluid from the surgery. Well, a week after my gallbladder surgery was my 6 month VSG surgiversary so I weighed in. Surprise! 135.0! I met goal in 6 months! :) I have since lost another 2 lbs in a matter of a few days. So, I am now below my initial goal of 135 lbs.

I've decided to leave my ticker like it is but to try to get to 125. So, that's my new goal...125lbs. If I make it, great. If not, I'm still more than thrilled with my success. I went from a sz. 18/20, XXL to a 8, M...I can even fit in some 6's & smalls. More than that, though, is how wonderful I feel. I could not imagine how much my life would change from one simple surgery. It's awesome.

I hope you are all doing well. I will try my hardest to check in here more often.

I had to have my gall bladder out right before thanksgiving too. I am with you on that one. I am glad that sucker is gone.

congratulations!

I like the way this board is set up better than OH, but I like the fact that there are more people over there who have been sleeved over a year.

Keep in touch!

Great job working your Sleeve. Congratulations!

I had my gallbladder removed in November and put on 10 pounds from the morning of surgery to the next evening. I was amazed at how much Fluid must have been pumped into me. Feels great to have it out, doesn't it? :001_smile:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
