I am one step closer I have my Pych evaluation next Monday. My PCP is writing a letter and sending my medical records. I can not wait! I do have a question, they say the Pych evalutation will take 2 hours. What is this all about? I do not have a problem with it but can not imagine what is going to take 2 hours or what kind of quesitons.

I didn't have a psych exam. It's not required for self pay people that go to Mexico for surgery. So far I've only met one person that I thought that was a major issue with.

But I think she would have been wacko no matter what.....

Mine took one hour. She asked me a lot of questions about habits, what I'm doing to prepare for surgery, how many people were in the room we were sitting in, who is the president... etc.

Kaiser has everyone do a psych evaluation before surgery.

Mine took 2 hours. I had to take a really ridiculous psych test on a computer. It was multiple choice. It asked questions like " I would like to be a ___________"

A) Florist

:smile1: Writer for Vogue

C) Interior Designer

D) Architect

Other questions were like " I feel anxious when" with multiple answers. " I really do not like social experiences/outings" True or False.

They are looking for anxiety, depression, addictive personality traits to see if you will have any extenuating issues post-op. That is at least what was explained to me.

After the testing, I had to meet with the psych and discuss all the changes that might occur, my concerns, and any questions.

That was all for my band surgery. For my revision, I just had to meet with a different psych to ensure that I could handle doing a revision while my husband was deployed, and that I was not going to break down since he was gone.

Mine was a breeze. She asked if I knew I was going to have to exercise and basically wanted to be sure I knew that this was not going to be a magic cure if I had food issues. this was before band surgery, not sleeve. I went to MX so it's not required before sleeve surgery. My band dr. would not do it without one.

They are looking to see if you are a compulsive eater and if you will be able to follow the rules. Some people do not know the difference between head hunger and really being hungry because your stomach is empty.

Thanks Everyone this is all very helpful. I don't have a problem with the eval at all. Just could not imagine what we would talk about for 2 hours! I just really want to get started on this journey. I read all the success stories, I know it is not going to be easy but what in life is easy.

My husband got me a WI Fit for Christmas, which I requested, I am pulling my bike out of the extra bedroom that is currently collecting dust, now to just get on it. :confused1:

I am so tired after working 10-11 hours a day. Everyone talks about more energy after they have the sleeve done. I sure hope so. I know over the years when I did lost weight I had more energy.

I just keep telling myself I am one day closer but it sure would be easier if I had a firm date.. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
