can you loose TOO Much weight?

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

I would like to thank everyone here, I've read stories, questions and answers and knowing that there are alot of people like me fighting with obesity and looking into this procedure to help fight back, makes me fill good and gives me the support I needed. On to my question. I might be wrong or not informed correctly, but, with the sleeve is it possible to LOOSE TOO MUCH weight? if so, how is that avoidable? This might be a dumb question but it would really help me out.

thanks in advance :smile1:

I don't know the answer to your question, but I'm more than willing to be the one that happens to! Good luck!

I'm sure that a patient could lose too much weight with any of the WLS procedures without the proper diet, and support from their surgeon/nutritionist. But, from what I've discussed with my nutritionist, and my surgeon, and my own research, maintaining is easy with the sleeve.

Once a patient meets goal, we up our calorie intake, and incorporate more complex carbs than what you had during the losing stage. Planning is essential, and I'm still learning to maintain. I have been able to get my weight loss to stop by adding in more carbs, good fats and veggies.

The thing with the sleeve unlike the DS or RNY there is no malabsorption. I really haven't ever read anyone ever losing too much weight with the band. But, I've read plenty of patients losing too much with DS and RNY.

mmm i really don?t think so. we put all our effort to lose what we need to lose and reach our ideal weight and then we need to maintain it.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
