hope4204,The biggest issue with Orange juice (and other fruit juices in general) is the high carb content. If you can control the cravings that the liquid carbs set off, I say enjoy it for the Vitamins and liquid intake it offers you. I found a Tropicana brand Orange juice that is 50% less sugar and calories...I've been having 2 oz of that in my Protein Shakes once or twice a week and I haven't enjoyed juice in a very long time. If you aren't keeping anything else down, the natural fruit sugars in juice won't hurt you. Just try to offset it with some Protein if possible. Just my opinion,

thanks ladies! tracy- im only able to tolerate liquids right now, even the thought of food makes me want to hurl! so im thinking that carb cravings wont be an issue! nor will the carbs or anything calorie wise since im not getting any from food. but i will look for the light orange juice at the store. i plan on calling the nutritionist tomorrow just to make sure, i was thinking and i believe the start of all this nausea started after i drank some light cran-grape juice! it was yummy tho lol

Hope, can you tolerate warm liquids? I use my chocolate Protein Powder mixed 50/50 with Swiss Miss Diet Cocoa and heat it just 30 seconds at a time, stirring after every 30 seconds until it's hot enough to all dissolve and taste like cocoa. Another thing to try is sliced ginger in water....the ginger settles your stomach. I sure hope you find relief soon!

Sorry I didn't really respond to the question asked which was "will it be too acidic?". I think some people can tolerate it and others can't. Best thing to do is take your Nexium or Prilosec...whatever you're using. Wait 30 minutes and try 1 oz of orange juice. Wait several hours to see if it causes heartburn or acid reflux...if it goes ok...try 2 oz the next day. Just my opinion....for what it's worth!

cold actually goes down for me much better than warm... i know its backwards! i was told to drink Water with lemon in the mornings to flush out the pouch. but this nausea has hindered that plan due to me not liking lemon anyways! i tried a tums today, BIG mistake! it has caused me problems the whole day! im ready for this faze to be over!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
