Too Full or Too Fast

Recommended Posts

Hi all. . . need some advise here. . . so here i am eating things like soft eggs, cottage cheese, yogurt and so on. . . chewing and such. . .I get maybe 4 oz down and then i get this sliding feeling up and down my throat and a knot just under my breast bone. . . no nausea, no bad feelings just pressure and a feeling of "swallowing a very large piece of unchewed meat" What is that? Is that my full signal or that i'm eating too fast signal? Please help, cause i'm sure NOT getting all my Protein at all cause of this feeling. . . :thumbup1:

I would guess that's your "I'm full" signal. 2-4 oz is a normal portion for early sleevers. Stop just before you feel that sensation, wait 30 minutes before you drink something and you're done for that meal. You may have to use Protein Shakes for a bit longer to actually get your total Protein in for each day. I was sleeved 2 weeks before you and I can only handle about 3 oz at a time.

It could be both. Eat slow, and chew thoroughly. And I agree, wait to drink any liquids until at least 30 minutes after you eat. I still drink a Protein drink everyday for one meal with add Protein powder to get my Protein in. Make sure you are taking vitiams too. It does get better and easier the farther out you get post-op. At this point patience is a virtue. I wish you the best!

Did you have a hiatal hernia repaired during surgery? I have heard that some people who have a hiatal hernia repair will sometimes have spasms until the area around the repair is completely healed.

Other wise, eat very slowly taking itty bitty bites and wait in between bites to see how it is going down.

In the very beginning, when everything is healing, we all get full on about 4-5 bites of anything. The sleeve will stretch slightly over time, and eating will get easier and you will be able to eat slightly more.

Thanks girls for all your information. . .I guess i'll slow down then. . . although I'm alot slower then in the old days. . . No Oregondaisy I didn't have a hiatial hernia repair during surgery. . .but that is a possibility. . . I already was thinking i was having that spasm where the opening is way too small and they might have to put a stent and open it up. . .eek! I'll try the slower eating. . . Thanks again all !!

That sounds a lot like my "full" signal. Slowing down (although I still forget sometimes) helps me to gauge my fullness so I don't take that one bite too many.

This sounds normal to me hon! I am 4.5 months out and I can only eat 4 ounces or so of anything. Early on you have to chew chew chew. Try weighing and only eating 3 ounces, waiting, and seeing how you feel.

Some of that feeling is "full" and some might be food backing up into your esophagus. A sure sign you are eating too much/too fast.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
