What can I eat 20 days after surgery?

Recommended Posts

20 days after my surgery, I have to attend a week long business meeting in AZ with people I only have to see a few times a year. I don't want to announce to the world I've had VSG. The problem is they cater the whole thing with a big dinner reception on one of the nights with steak fish or chicken as entree choices. How do I get around this? On the other days I'm sure there will be like yougert available for Breakfast and softer foods, but steak, fish or chicken? Maybe I could say I don't feel well??? Somebody, any suggestions??

I had a similar experience. Since I wasn't sharing my WLS with anyone, and was stuck in a business dinner, I just told everyone that my stomach hurt and thought it might not stay down if I ate (not far from the truth) and didn't feel like eating. It really wasn't a problem.

Or you could order the fish, (since it is the softest) and eat the soft foods (steamed veggies etc). and just eat around it, then when you get back to your hotel room, take a Protein shake. I leave for a work trip next weekend for a week too and it is hard, but I don't care, I will figure it out. I think we think people are aware of what we are or aren't eating, but I bet if you don't make a big deal out of it, it won't be.

Good luck! Let us know how it goes!

Fish is considered a mushy food. Smash it up with your fork so that it's good and mushy and you should not have a problem. Don't eat very much of it or you will be overstuffed at this point and that is really uncomfortable. You can say either you had late lunch/snack, or you have a tummy ache and just aren't very hungry.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
