I am almost at 3 weeks out and I am drinking fat free skim milk with SF carnation instant Breakfast added to it. I just started trying to keep a log of my intake so I started using My Plate. I was shocked to see that each cup (14 protein) also added up to 20 grams of sugar!!! Now my sugar intake is actually higher than my Protein. I am confused at to whether or not this is healthy and why it was recommended in the first place. Anyone else run into this issue?I do not see the doc or nutritionist until the 19th!

There is a dairy here in TX that produces a product called Mootopia (HEB stores). It is lactose free, 0 g fat, 90 cal, 6g carbs, 12 g Protein. I would bet that there are dairies in your neck of the woods that produce something similar. Also, there is Hood's Calorie Countdown which has fewer calories and carbs, but also less protein.

I was told to steer clear of the Carnation products just because of the carb/sugar counts. I wish I had more information for you, but I would look at a different Protein source if you are concerned about the sugar content.

I was just wondering about milk. I was sleeved on the 4th of Jan. and have been drinking light soy milk. But is it OK to drink regular milk? I never had a problem with milk before. I'm just wondering if the sleeve/surgery has now made it impossible to drink regular. I haven't tried it, but was just wondering...:(

Thanks!

You can try the regular milk. Some ppl become lactose intolerant after vsg surgery. Thankfully, I didn't, but others have. All I can say is give it a try and see what happens. You might try some Fage Greek yogurt first as it has Probiotics in it and graduate to milk if you have good results with the yogurt. If you tolerate lactose, just watch out for the carbs, fat and calories in regular milk. (Ask me how I know about that! :( )

ok ... I'll bite and ask how you know about that?

I was told that the carbs (sugar) in milk was acceptable as long as we watch the other carbs we eat.

Hi, I was told after my first week post op checkup from my nutritionist, that I am only allowed Mootopia fat free milk. I got it and love it especially with the Protein Powder. . .the Mootopia Milk has less calories and more Protein in it then regular milk. . . you need lots of protein right now. . . so if you can get that. . . good luck

Mini-ME, I know about it because I was drinking nearly as much milk as Water (it really tasted good to me) and it dramatically slowed my weight loss. :{ I backed off on the qty of milk and the free fall resumed :]

just got me some Mootopia too, can't wait till morning time for my Protein shake. Isn't HEB great? I can't believe the assortment and high quality of thier store brand items. Glad that I live in Central Texas where they are located. My folks live in Amarillo and they have never heard of HEB.

Hey WingRider, I'm originally from Plainview, TX about 60 miles south of Amarillo, closer to Lubbock! Yes, we didn't know about HEB either, only United SuperMarket. . . isn't it a small world? Yes, I love HEB now. . . has almost everything. . . enjoy your shake tomorrow, it tastes like instant carnation breakfast. . .

I miss HEB stores, and Albertsons. I never thought I could miss a grocery store, but I definitely miss those 2 the most.

I lived in Waco for awhile, and I loved going there. There's Albertsons all over the D/FW area where I'm from and totally miss them as well.

Geez, y'all make me miss Texas soooooo much ! ! ! I like the commissary, they do have a good variety, but nothing like Albertsons or HEB.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
