Complications...does it improve or am I alone?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Excuse me but I am new to online forums. I'm sure over time my tech-savvy will improve.

I am 4 weeks post sleeve. My first 2 weeks were awesome I thought "wow" then I've been really going backwards.

I have celiac disease which flared a lactose intolerance, which has added to my woes.

At about 2 weeks on a minced and mashed diet I started to vomit all solids. It didn't matter if I took nause medication (I take Nexium) up it would come. Landed in hospital for a night just after xmas for fluids and a scope - all was fine.

Home sweet home for a few days and the vomiting started all over again. My doc is great but I think he's wondering what to do with me.

Also every time I eat solids or even thick Soups I get moderate to severe stomach pain - like a spasm and in my stomach that radiated to a variety of places over my tummy. I have now been told this is not 'normal'. After I eat, the pain goes away generally within 5 to 10 minutes.

I am keen to here if others have experienced a similar set of complications and how did you cope and DID IT PASS?

Cheers,

Gmac (I have not figured a signature out yet!)

First off, let me welcome you! You'll find this forum major helpful. . . secondly, honey why are you on solids? You're not supposed to be yet. . not at 4 weeks out. . . I'm out now 7 days and still on Clear liquids until Thursday, then I get to introduce those Protein soft foods. . sf puddings, fat free refried Beans moistened with broth, fat free string cheese, fat free cottage cheese, then in week 3, i can add very moist ground turkey, extra lean hamburger meat along with week 2 stuff. . . that is it for about 5 months, and on month 5 then i can resume a regular diet. . . are you chewing/sipping well? are you taking your time eating? if your doing all that and still feel sick then maybe you need to check for leaks? just thinking here, another good thing maybe to go back to square one with the Clear Liquids for a week or so. . . good luck hon! keep us posted

Your stomach isn't even completely healed yet. I had to go back to mushies/purees for awhile because my body just could not handle solid food.

Are you sipping to fast, or gulping anything?

Remember your stomach is still swollen from the trauma, and it may some more time for you to progress your diet. Have you noticed any difference in cold and warm fluids? Even at 7 months post-op, warm fluids or even room temperature fluids feel better than ice cold drinks.

It does get better, but it all takes time. I know I wasn't a very patient person, but I learned real quick that I had to take it slow so my body could adjust.

Welcome to VST! You've gotten some great things to think about regarding the progression of your diet...possibly too soon, we are all so different and heal at different rates. I wish you start to handle things better soon.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
