Hi ! i can only tell you about my doctor. . . Dr. Ramiro Cavazos, here in San Antonio. . .if your self pay, you go to the ultra private hospital (very nice) private room, own bathroom with shower, even a living room where your family member can stay overnight on a pull out, daughter stayed with me all 3 days and was very comfortable. . . . . Dr. Cavazos is a very nice physician, he listens and to me that is important. . . he wants to know all your concerns and all the questions you may have. . . he wants to be sure you are prepared for this surgery and doesn't just cut on you because your self pay. . . you still have to go through the seminar, office visit, nutrition class, and psych evaluation. . . then after all that you are given an appointment (actually you pick the appt) and then still have to go back to talk with him to make sure you don't have questions. . . blood work is done on that day as well at the hospital. . . then that's it . . . surgery day, he makes sure he is there to greet you, you meet everyone, anesthesia, etc. . . after your awake and in your room, everyone comes to see you, Respiratory therapist, nurses, director of nurses, social work, etc. etc. by that evening your up to wander around a bit, later on it's into the hallway. . . you have to do to help yourself though, they make sure you have lots of pain meds so that your basically comfortable. . . my experience was good, I see Dr. Cavazos again on Thursday along with nutrition class and exercise class, sign up for support group which are held once a month. . . get labs drawn to make sure i'm ok. . . . who ever you chose, make sure you research them though and your going to have a good experience too. . . .good luck!

I was recently sleeved by Dr. Alvarez in Piedras Niegras Mexico on December 30th. His price was $9700 for self pay. You should check out his website www.endobariatric.com I never could find anything negative anywhere,,obesity help.com, you tube, or any patient profile interviews!! He was an amazing physician, and his staff was wonderful! I couldn't have chosen a better physician. I had an amazing experience!!! keep us posted on whomever you choose!!:crying:

ic4rest, I understand what you mean by being scared to go by yourself. I really wanted my mother to go with me, but she won't take the time off in February (even though she very easily could...). She would go with me in the summer, but now that I have made my decision I do not want to wait that long. I am penciled in with Dr. Aceves February 12th. (Just trying to find financing). I have asked a friend to go with me though. I would love to hear from you during your journey. I will only be a few weeks behind you hopefully!

Good Luck!

Thanks everyone for making me feel so at ease. My only fear now is I won't want to come back to this frigid weather in the northeast once in Mexicali.

I'm going to Dr. Mark Pleatman in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. Thankfully he's only about 45 minutes south of me (in good weather), but he and his office deal a lot with out-of-state patients. Here's his profile on OH, where you can read a lot of patient reviews: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&ct=res&cd=3&ved=0CBgQFjAC&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.obesityhelp.com%2Fmorbidobesity%2Fbariatric%2Bsurgeon%2Bprofile%2BMark%2BPleatman%2Bhsj.html&rct=j&q=mark+pleatman+md&ei=tfJMS834LYaKNvLt6PgM&usg=AFQjCNHX80xRf8Xr6toyhP5Uu76vlR3bCQ&sig2=NiFU8Kt1F7sVMWJLjI7omA

And here's his website: Mark Pleatman MD Weight Loss Surgery Website

His self-pay price of $11,200 includes pro-op testing (hospital bloodwork), his surgical fee, the hospital fee, the anesthesia fee, and two years of follow-up care. He has the self-pay deal through Doctor's Hospital and you can click on that link to see patient reviews there. :confused1:

Hi and thanks for the reply. someone told me about dr pleatman earlier perhaps it was you but not sure. i've committed to having dr aceves do the VSG in mexicali almater hospital. he seems more than qualified and comes with good recommendations from numerous people on this and OH sites. i'm nervous about going there by myself but his price was very reasonable -- 8750 -- if i had it done in January so i jumped on it. the air fair wasn't much and everything else was included. he performs it in hospital and you stay in the hospital 3 days afterward for vsg. so between his credentials, his reviews and the price i went for it. pls wish me luck. nervous wreck that i am.

I was wondering why on Dr. Aceves's website it says nothing about him doing Gastric Sleeve. I think I am going to go with him for my surgery in March but I just had that question. And what happens to the staples when your stomache heals? Are they there forever or do they dissolve? Thanks and good luck to everyone thats getting the Gastric sleeve done!

The staples are there forever. They are titanium staples and dr. acveves oversews. there is not one person on this board that didn't had a wonderful experience with him and the staff there. I went alone too and I was treated like a queen.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
