Holiday drinking?? Can I?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I haven't been on here for a bit. I have a quick question. So tonight being New Years eve and all, I was wondering If I can have a drink or 2. I am almost 3 months out. I tried calling my surgeon and the help nurse but Kaiser seems to suck during the holidays. I can't get an answer. Please HELP! Don't want to end up in the emergency room tonight hahahahaa:001_tongue:

Happy New Year everyone :scared0:

I was cleared for alcohol consumption at my 3.5 month follow up. I've only had a couple of white (Riesling) wine with zero ill effects. I didn't get drunk quickly, I didn't catch a buzz, I didn't get nauseated, but I did eat in between the 2 glasses. I haven't attempted hard alcohol, and I never enjoyed beer.

Do you still have any paperwork from your post-op diet when they indicate alcohol consumption is "okay"?

Hi Tiffy .. No dont have the old paperwork, but I am almost positive that it didnt say anything about alcohol. I only drink mixed drinks anyway, you know the girly kind. And even before the surgery I was a lightweight. Just dont want to miss out since I am having a New Years party. My BF just had his sleeve done on 12/15 .. probably not a good idea for him to drink then ha? LOL ...

LOL, I loved mojitos before surgery well those and rum/cokes. I haven't tried anything stronger just because I'm a wuss now.

You need to come around more ! ! ! I don't want to give medical advice, but if you are eating regular food , and think you may be able to handle it, my surgeon's words to me were "take it slow, don't overdo it, alcohol is wasted/empty calories".

I will be drinking a martini or two tonight. I started drinking my occasional cosmo or dirty martini around 3 months post-op (I think a little before). Start slow, don't want to over due it.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
