If you went to this surgeon, were you able to bring a support person? If so, was there an additional cost? Was that person able to stay with you in the hospital? Thanks in advance!!

Yes, they provide a couch in your room, which I have heard is very comfortable. They can stay in your room with no charge.I have also heard that the food in the cafeteria is very good and quite reasonable.

People seem to find other people from here that are going to be there at the same time, and the support people are able to hang out with each other.

You will love it there. All of us who have been there have nothing but wonderful things to say about everyone at the hospital. They are all great people!

yes,

my honey slept on a leather sofa for 3 nights..he was quite comfy. The hospital provides bedding, towels and Shampoo for both of you as well.

He would go down to the hospital cafe with the other "supporters" for meals..it becomes such a family atmosphere. You meet other patients on your burp walks up and down the hallways!

Dr. Aceves and Dr. Campos are the best!

Kris

Tennessee1031,

Yes by all means bring a support person. There is no extra charge if they stay in your hospital room with you and the staff is very accomodating. I keep saying...once you go to Almater, you'll wish you never had to have surgery stateside again!

Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
