Hi everyone!! I have Aetna as primary and Tricare as secondary and neither will pay. Does anyone have an cost information for any doctors/pay plans etc.. in TN or surrounding area? One doctor in M'Boro quoted me in the 19k range- yikes!! Thanks in advance:)

Hi,

Sorry, my insurance wouldn't pay for WLS. Any place I check close in the Pacific Northwest was between $25,000 to $38,000. Like so many others I was a self pay so I started to check around for the very best I could find. I ended up going to Dr. Aceves in Mexico. I have no regrets and his fee was about $8,700 at that time. I highly recommend him.

Suzanne

My panties aren't in a wad and I'm cool as cucumber, but I sure got your attention. Sounds to me like you needed to move on to another doctor if this Westmoreland guy was trying to pressure you into a surgery you didn't want. Paragraph #2 is what it comes down to though, isn't it? Money. You didn't want to pay the almost 18k - and that's fine. 'Nuff said.

Hi,

Isn't it amazing when you mention anything about the doctor that "you" experienced that people assume we are getting paid to talk about them. I have had the same kind of attacks. All we can only speak about is our OWN experience. I am happy that you had success as I did too.

Hugs,

Suzanne

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
