3 months post surgery and H Pylori Positive!

Recommended Posts

I wish I did know why we will always test positive for it from now on. I know when I did the stool test, I didn't have it anymore. That does not mean you can't pick it up again though.

I wash my fruit that I eat with skins on or anything else people have handled, but I've been told that rinsing with Water is not enough to get the bacteria off the food. I don't usually wash food with soap and Water though and I was even told to rinse it in water with a capful of bleach to get rid of bacteria!

The pain I get on my right side when I do have it caused me to not recognize the pain I got from a gall bladder attack. The pain was in the same spot, and I was thinking I had H Pylori again!

goodness! I have never heard of that! I had severe pain in my right side, similar to my gall bladder attacks and in the area of my liver. Turns out it was Oddi Dysfunction and because it is uncommon, took over three months to get diagnosed. A specialist was able to do an ERCP and clip the biliary muscle. It is more common in those who have had their gall bladder removed and in middle aged women. Go figure.

I will say this... knowing that I've probably had this bug in my stomach for YEARS, kind of pisses me off... my doctor's here in the US (even when I got a colonoscopy and endoscopy last year) NEVER CHECKED FOR THIS. I've complained of problems like "always feeling hungry in my stomach" and have had other serious problems like severe Iron deficiency (they thought I had leukemia last year, my hemoglobin was so low), which are ALL side effects and off-shoot problems of H.Pylori. It's a shame. Additionally, I think this nasty bacteria might have something to do with why my band eroded so severely, at the bacteria eats into the lining of stomach. Ugh. Anyways, I'm getting started on the prescription meds for this, which are pretty tough to get down, but hopefully it will kill the bug and I can move on... Will keep you guys posted! :smile1::smile::smile:

I'm waiting to get my surgery. I tested positive for H. pylori they put me on ant-acid and antiboitics I went through the first round of meds. I did a second stool test and they still said I have it. Why do they hold off from doing the surgery if you have H pylori? I'm so mad. I really want my surgery done. SO now Im scared that even though I have no symptoms I might test positive again. And they have to put off the surgery. Does anyone know what happens if you test positive for H pylori the second time around.

You will need to complete the treatment. I had to prior to surgery. Also hereafter your blood will always show positive for H-Pylori, and the only valid test that is through a stool sample. I am confident that once you finish the course of antibiotics as prescribed you will be cleared for surgery. Just don't miss any doses and test again when your completely done with the treatment. Best wishes.

WOW !! I'm so sorry to hear you are now going through this. We have enough issues to go through just learning how to live our new lives without turning to food.

You are on my prayer list. Who better to turn to. Hugs coming your way...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
