jsaturday 0 Posted December 28, 2009 Hello everyone! I have the vertical sleeve procedure on 12/16/09. My surgery was a breeze. No complications. Discharged in under 36 hours. I am now in my pureed phase of the post-op diet which is going just ok. The problem that I'm having is that I have absolutely NO desire to eat or drink. I have tried everything. I've watched the food Network for a week which normally I would eat myself out of house and home, and still nothing. When I do force myself to eat, everything tastes fine. I get excited when I get to introduce new foods until it comes down to the act of eating. Has anyone experienced this? I'm trying to figure out if I am truly not hungry or if I'm psyching myself out because I'm afraid to fail?
Tiffykins 673 Posted December 28, 2009 I went through the same thing for a long. I just didn't care for food, but knew that I had to eat. I just had to force myself to eat. I set a reminder on my cell phone every 4 hours to eat during my awake hours. It helped to remind me that I needed to eat. Some foods just didn't appeal to me. Plus, my sense of smell was heightened, and certain smells made me nauseated. It does get better with time.
Shontel 3 Posted December 29, 2009 Its hard for me to recognize hunger anymore. I'm only a month out but like Tiffy, I remind myself to eat..the drinking, just find something that soothes you, broth? lemon Water? something that you like, as much as possible. I also have to agree with Tiffy on the smells...I think I'm getting past it but still have my moments. I know it gets better with time so hopefully you'll finds ways to work around this and get some liquids and nutrition in.
