I am almost two weeks out and my nutritionist said I could enter the mushy food stage!!! She said I could eat small curd cottage cheese, puddings, blended Soups and smooth meat. What is considered smooth meat?

I bought bologna but it is so high in fat and sodium that I don't think that is what she meant. Any ideas......?

smooth meat? sounds like baby food meats, liver sausage (but that is very high in fat so don't do that) some of the baby food meats may be good? Idk

meats were pretty difficult for me to tolerate, but I did find that I could boil a chicken breast in just Water, then shred it up, and pureed it in my mini food processor with a little miracle whip. It was kind of like chicken salad.

I essentially could chew it up in my mouth, and get it fairly runny below swallowing.

In my opinion, during the mushy stage it is still essential to chew very well. Digestion begins in the mouth, and chewing even mushy food will help your "baby" tummy that's still ultimately confused, traumatized, and healing to digest the food with minimal discomfort.

I tried white meat chicken pureed and chewed well, but it always gave me back pain. Then I switched to dark meat chicken, which is more moist and not so grainy. It was great. No more back pain. Dark meat turkey worked well too. Pureed if you are on mushies. Chewed well otherwise.

Thank you everyone.....I tried the bologna but it made me kind of queezy. The chicken worked well except it would have been much better on a cracker!!!! I was always a texture girl. Oh well.....for sure later!

Exactly what kind of texture am I looking for when I puree tuna or chicken? I just can't imagine that tasting good. But I'm pretty sure the Protein shakes are going to get real old real fast by next week .

So smoother than tuna salad.....maybe like the consistency of a smooth egg salad?

Yes like a smooth egg salad, or have you ever had/seen like potted meat, or devil's ham(that stuff makes my skin crawl, but my dad ate it all the time)? No chunks, the mini-food processor I picked up at Wal-Mart for $8 was a good thing during this time. I wasn't patient enough to fork mush everything, and I was a bit paranoid about eating anything with chunks. It was not very enjoyable because it is pureed meat, but I ate it for the Protein and a change in my menu early out.

Good to know about the processor from Walmart. And deviled ham => makes me want to hurl in addition to skin crawl...lol. Ugh. Can't wait until January 18th when I can get my Protein from real protein sources.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
